Hi Heather and all! I haven't been on for awhile...so much stuff is happening. Still have to move my daughter and sister into new apartments which is a pressing concern. Last week learned that my hubby has a bad case of Lyme Disease (again) and I have Mono. I am going for more testing to rule out some other things. I have been totally exhausted and my tail is dragging. Thought I would share two cute pics for a Happy Hump Day even though I am a few mins late.

Sorry to hear you've been under the weather, Mono sound like no fun at all. We had a stomach thing going around that was... unpleasant.. but at least short lived.

I love your babies, especially the black one posing in front of a big Rooster. Do you think he hopes to be like that when he grows up, lol?

Morning all,
Beautiful babies Tina . Sorry to hear you and your husband aren't feeling well.

The Dutchess county fair is in 2 weeks. I'm thinking of going on Wed or thursday the 21- 22. It's about as far as the jersey fair minus the belt parkway. I truely Hate the belt parkway and Ithink it hates me.I've never been but what the heck. It's a nice drive up the Taconic . If anyone wants to take the ride let me know and we can make some plans. Christina , I don't think it is crazy far for you.

Looking for homes for 2 beautiful true Aruacanas .rumpless with 1 tuft each. About 8 weeks.

Carol, I would love to go if I have the energy. Don't count on me as it would have to be spur of the moment, but please do keep me posted. I still have your cell number and can give you mine again. Tina

Quote: Nice pics Tina! I hope your feeling better fast. My sister's son just got over west nile virus and mono stacked together. What a long haul that was.......but he's getting better finally. Try to rest is all you can really do.
Maggie, My son had mono two years ago...the summer he graduated from high school. He was in the hospital on IV and was a mess, poor guy. Developed hepatitis and they thought he also had erlichiosis (tick borne). A fellow BYCer has suggested that I try "oil pulling" which is an Ayurvedic oral cleansing. It is supposed to help to remove bacteria and possibly draw toxins etc from the body. Started doing it yesterday and will see if it helps. I am also taking garlic, olive leaf and reishi which are natural antivirals. Taking a bunch of vitamins in hopes this all helps. Tina

Thank you! We are overrun with silkie chicks right now. Went on a "mission" to get eggs from pure black lines so we can get a solid breeding program off the ground. It's been quite challenging to find top quality black silkies that people are willing to part with. Lots of roadblocks and its taken over a year to get going. So, I bought pure black eggs plus a few paint, lavendar and porcelain eggs for Lindsey...oh and one lone buff egg. Hatching has been challenging, and rewarding and sometimes very disappointing. I can't stand doing "eggtopsies" and finding fully formed babies that were too weak to hatch. Very sad... Lindsey is going to have a bunch of youngsters to sell by the next Sussex Show. I hope she enjoys this next show as much as the first one. We are going to miss seeing you there!

Hello all. Sorry to hear about the illnesses. I thought I had lymes disease after a hike through the trails at Montauk point but after many tests and cat scans...it's only high blood pressure and doctor forced ban of sodium.
However, a question is a coming...does anybody on Long Island know if Agway in Riverhead has medicine for a sneezing chicken? My new girl I got last Friday is still sneezing. She was over run with bugs, which I dusted her with DE and put a pile of dirt in her area...she dove in and started bathing immediately. She gave us an egg on Friday and Saturday, but nothing since. I did add some grower feed with her layer and provided free choice oyster shell. She so badly wants to join the original 5, but until the respritory issue is solved she can't. She is however looking healthier and not scratching/ preening as much as she was and appears to have a new shine to her feathers. Any info is much appreciated.
Please take care all, I look forward to reading your posts and feel for those in pain due to chicken issues and your own health.

Good day again. Disregard last nights question as I made a trip to Riverhead today and got Duramycin-10, VetRX and in case worms come a callin..."Backyard Chicken ZYFEND A". I now feel ready to defend my girls against "stuff".
Have a great Friday all and feel better to those ailing!

Amazingly, out of my 8 chicks, I think only one is a roo... And he started crowing this morning. Ack. Anyone have any suggestions on rehoming him? I saw that I can post him on this site, but I was just curious what everyone else has done in this situation. All my friends who have chickens aren't allowed roosters either!

Thanks for sharing...my hubby has had all sorts of cardiac and neuro testing but I have wondered about his blood pressure...

I hope your sneezing chicken recovers quickly. If you treat her with antibiotics, be sure not to add apple cider vinegar to the water. The ph will counteract the antibiotic. It might be wise to treat all the birds that have been near her. Also, it would be good to bathe her to further rid any bugs.
