Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Today if FINALLY got my lettuce, carrots, Swiss chard and onions in the ground, even with my tiller breaking down on me. Nothing like turning the soil and adding compost by hand, lol.

My chicks come in less than two weeks. My wife and I are very excited. These are our first. I've done lots of reading on this and other sites, so hopefully we will have everything under control. Fingers crossed!
Welcome to the thread! If you need anything chicken, this is the place to get your questions answered! What breeds are you getting?

Well, if I win them, I will apparently have enough to share, since they auction them in lots. I wonder how much this lot is worth to bid on. I have been looking up info on crocks so that I can at least make an educated guess on value. I imagine I might end up bidding against a dealer or two, depending on who checked out the auction site. I have been looking all over for crocks. I am hoping to find a functional one some day so I can make real pickles. Usually they don't have the lids since people don't realize that the lid (weights) goes into the crock to hold the pickles down, not on the lip and throw them away thinking they are mis matched or something. Anyway, will see how I feel about them when I get there.

I want the butter churn.
That is what caught my eye too. If I was into quilting I would suggest we get dna tested to be sure we aren't clones.

My mom has collected a few large crocks over the years and have them as decoration in the house. 1# butter tubs up to 30#. I have a 20# that the previous home owner left behind, we use it to store newspapers for starting the woodstove. Mom made plywood lids so can use them for storage and put something pretty on top. And a butter churn she made a small plywood lid and put a round handle in it. Not authentic, but still cute.
As for functional crocks, CountryMax had brand new replicas on sale in the fall with all the other canning and pickling supplies. Think those were the 5# size.

CountryMax? We don't have those in this neck of the woods. They look great though. I will look for a replica as well, it might be better for consistency sake than an antique.

This is a nice lot. I've seen them priced at $75 - $100 each.

Sorry i missed you all at chickenfest, but the auction was outstanding! I got the crock in the front right of the pallet (the one with the handle) for 25. Yay! The butter churn was in near mint condition and went for 140. There was a bidding war on it and i could tell by the look of determination on one of the bidders face that she was willing to go any price for it, so i jumped out. I also got a cast iron kettle and a hand thrown pot. Then i got to tired to keep bidding. There were a lot more things i would have gone for, but i would have needed a truck...
