Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Hey, ANYONE down here on Long Island...If you have any issues with food or anything, DH passes Agway in Riverhead every day.
He can pick up, and take home. I work in Smithtown, can bring in the next day. Just PM me what you need, we can meet up. Roberta

Roberta, that is incredibly generous of you. I like the Agway in Riverhead. I actually get out that way every couple of weeks, so it works out pretty well for me.

BTW, I assume DH = Darling Husband. In my house, it's DP = Domestic Partner. Very patient and understanding. I lost my teaching job of 7 years due to not being bilingual (don't get me started on that) and when I brought Gladys home he thought I had lost my mind. But he admits that the chickens have lifted me out of a 6 month depression. In fact, despite his alleged uninvolvement in the whole chicken thing, he is already working on new nesting boxes and expresses constant concern for the health and safety of the chicks as well as Gladys.

Yesterday when I got home from my sub job he told me he went out to check on Gladys because she was making a lot of noise and found a cat in the yard. He chased the cat away and then sat in one of the patio chairs. Gladys promptly came up to him and jumped up into his lap. Uninvolved? Not so much. I think the real turning point for him came when he saw Gladys eating the carpenter ants that are eating our house. He told me if we could train her to pick mosquitoes out of the air, he'd let her sleep in the bedroom.

Any news on your silkies? I feel so bad about that.

Looking forward to a road trip to Stormville on Saturday. I hope they have chicken stuff!!

Yeah, found a pile of feathers. Now all the silkies are in my bird room til I can get permament housing in the basement set up.
Sounds like Gladys is good therapy for all involved. Hope all works out for you. A fair can really lift the spirits. I'm gonna have to mapquest that and see how far that is for us. We had a blast at Queens, but maybe it was because of all the ribbons!
Rich, everytime I get "special pumpkins" thinking the chickens will get them after Halloween, I look out the front door after a few days, and the deer and squirrels destroy them. Seeds all over my porch. YUCK. Let the girls have one now!

Roberta, that's what I say give it to them now. The dog keeps the deer, squirrels and even the bears away from the front porch where the pumpkins are so I don't have to worry so much about them. The problem is the wife wants them for halloween. We do have 3 of them so I may just sneak one quietly away today. I'll let you know how I make out.

OOPS, I wonder where it could have gone??? Just be careful of the telltale orange pumpkin colored goo that will be all over their beaks!!
