the egg on the left is a normal sized egg. On the right is the egg I found this morning. I think an ostrich used the nest box. I can't even fit this egg in the carton.

Suzanne, In the beginning you are going to get a number of those (many are double yolkers) and you will cringe just thinking how she got it out. Eventually they seem to stop laying the weird ones once their systems are up and running for three or four months. Hope you are feeling better.

Hi Al. Physically I'm somewhat better - still in a lot of pain, but managing. I'm just feeling depressed and so limited! I went out to visit the girls this morning. It helped.

It's not the room, it's the attitude.
Hatchery chicks shouldn't be too bad on you, I have some Thai, Shamo, and have had red Jungle fowl.
I think I need to get rid of the Thai, they are getting too aggressive on the rest of the flock.
If I could separate them, they may stand a chance.
At just under one year, the stags are around 7 lbs, and stand over 2' high.
They will need at least another year to fill out.
There are a few game threads, check them out.
Beautiful birds, but I think I made a mistake trying to keep them all together.

you have shamos? I once got Koshamo chicks from a friend of mine, but they sadly died. My cousin and BYC user Chrisf raises japanese fowl and Appenzellers, but he thinks Sumatras are "mainstream". Are they loud birds?
Good layers?

Like I said, they are just under a year, so they really aren't mature enough to judge them.
My Shamo girl that I showed at NEPC layed an egg in my hand last week, It didn't really look like the ones I am used to getting, so I really don't know if it took her that long to lay, or if it was the thrill of the thing going plop in my hand!
The boys are starting to get hormonal, and the crows are just deeper, more of a baritone sound vs a "normal" rooster.

Someone has some Ko trios for sale, very nice birds, on the oriental thread. Old*cowboy. And a great price for them, too.
He is getting a major surgery soon, and needs to thin the flock down. Check it out...

Oh, I go to the Congress every year! I don't show though, but we went with no birds, and came back with 10! a la fleche, two polish, a serama-cochin "mix", and a few others.
I have to go check that out!
Do you have any pictures of yours?
