Once they all start laying you will see how fast the fridge gets full. 3 dozen plus per week adds up quick. We can't give them away fast enough sometimes. Thanks for clearing up the neosporin question.

I love neosporin. I already bought that Blue-Kote stuff for when the girls pick each other or get hurt but I think I'll try neosporin. I really don't want to deal with all that purple staining stuff.

My 2 girls are doing great. They eat a TON and seem happy except I can't pick up just one of them without the other screaming. Poor babies don't know where all their friends went.

We've got 2-1/2 dozen in the fridge right now! I take eggs with me wherever I go. Can just imagine what it will be like when I have 10 (ahem, I mean 8) hens.

Yes, Neo is fine, you just can't use anything with "-cane" in it. that is toxic to them.
It is the pain killer, like benzocane (cain?) it's early, not enough coffee for the brain to work yet.

Hey Suzanne, Bobby is handy, as soon as I saw the pic, I thought it could be built for way less.
I had chatted with Trish "the spoiled chicken", she is on here sometimes, in Mattituck.
She is thinking about, ok, dreaming about what we all want.
Open a chicken business, and have it pay our bills.

Ok, so we were thinking about building these locally.
It CAN be done here.
What you say we look into this?
I know we have the market here.
My yard has the room, and I have the tools, we built our house.....
And I really can't stand going to work at the car place anymore.

Last month we were taking care of our neighbors chickens for 10 days. Between our chickens and theirs we got over 300 eggs. I was giving them away like candy on Halloween.
Rich, that's a lot of eggs. Sometimes you can't give them away fast enough. We've had as many as 8 dozen in the fridge at one time. Funny thing is I think we eat less eggs since we got our chickens. How crazy is that ?

Love the coop suzanne! Love the rustic look of it, wish my old coop could get a facelift to look just like it. Here is what our coop looked like in 1952. It's the building in the background.

Thanks, Roberta. I'm going to use that if I see anymore raw spots on chicken butts. The Blue Kote does stain a heck of a lot, but it is good if there is blood involved. My wife and I were having the chicken and egg selling conversation just last night. Move upstate a little farther and have a small farm and sell eggs. Depending on how much we can take the cold as we get older it sounded like a good idea. Like all good ideas, though, they sometimes sound better than when you do get what you wished for. I think you are on the right track with the coop building idea. Just keep it simple and blueprint a couple styles. Then you can precut when it takes off and make it easier on yourselves. I know what you say about the dealerships. Our son was a tech for 10 years. Always liked cars until he worked at dealerships. He made money, but the stress was high. Now he works for the railroad and fixes trains.
