So, Bobby's home working on the new coop. He decided it needs to be 6x8. He makes me giggle sometimes.

I drew some plans last night (which I'll have to amend to include the extra 2 feet. Six windows, 2 vents, roosting bar on two walls, poop bar underneath, 5 nesting boxes, partially covered run with spa corner. He asked if I want running water and cable too. Nothing is too good for our girls.

I think Bobby was surprised when I pulled out a wad of cash at Home Depot. (It was a good week tutoring.) I told him "I came to play!". Relentless is my middle name.

Your coop to be sounds great.

That is the same size as mine, and we are just reorganizing it today. We had a ladder roost in the small south end, but cleaning under it was a pain, so today we replaced it with a 24 inch wide shelf with a lip to be a poop board holding sand and PDZ. Centered above the shelf is a branch for roosting. Can't wait to fill up the shelf and let the girls try out their new roost. They are not too into change, so I hope they don't withhold eggs...

This way I will be able to bring the dog crate out with the chicks and broody so they can all bond. It should be lots easier to clean!

With any luck (and a lot of nagging) the new coop should be done in time for the arrival of the new chicks, so we can set the brooder up out there. Less poop in the house. Always a good thing.

I got such a kick out of my friend's message yesterday that she had 6 chicks in the shower. You know you're into chickens when they're in your bathroom!
