Remember, no kissing the chickens...![]()
I'm sure I'll catch grief for posting this link, but here goes.
It's a live feed from Cornell University's dept. of Ornithology. The feed is of a Red-tailed Hawk sitting on her eggs. Maybe we can convince them to eat mice...exclusively!

Heather, I caught the hawk cam today just as she was turning her eggs. It was great to see it live. Sometimes you think she is a ham by looking right into the camera at you. If you catch it when the moderators are controlling the camera they will zoom in really close. Yesterday you could see the reflection of the camera in her eye. It is cool. I totally forgot about the followup to New Rochelle. I thought for sure it would have passed. Like you said, ignorant. Congrats on the soon to be your new puppy! Puppies are alway wonderful and have a calming effect on the entire household.Oh Al, how funny! I was just logging onto the thread to post the same link! How cool is this cam, though, seriously? You can click on "videos" and see the highlight reel as it were where she lays a third egg and he brings her some rodents to eat, yum yum.
I think we're all bird lovers here, and you have to respect that raptors have their place in nature too, even if it means taking out our favorite hen.
I saw the article in the LoHud - but did you see the follow-up? New Rochelle voted against chickens. Typical ignorance, they think they're too loud. No louder than a dog at the most, and certainly quieter than the darn leaf blowers! I was doing research in the library on the history of Harrison today and discovered that my block was originally called - get this - Archer's Egg Farm! There is an Archer Rd at the end of my street and apparently the Archer family was heavy into chickens. Historical precedent I tells ya! You can't take my birds away! Plus we're getting a puppy soon, hurray! Not that that has anything to do with birds or chickens, but the puppies were born last night and I am super excited. Yay!

Calming? Puppies? If you say so, lol. I'm anticipating the full-on newborn experience all over again. I hope you're right.

The woman they quoted really needs to come meet some of us backyard farmers, it would help change her mind.
