Was wondering what your real name was. I kind of referred to you as the highpointfarm guy.

Hi Suzanne! I live in Centereach, and would love to make some chicken raising friends! I am just getting started here, we picked up our chicks Tuesday, and will begin the coop Sunday.

Shout out to all: I would love some advice on what you have found to be the key features in our coop. I've been reading so much sometimes its hard to tell what to believe.

The coop plans I have call for the door and ramp to come from the bottom of the coop, but I think I'd prefer it out the side so the bottom would be easier to clean and I could use a big piece of lino or something easy to scrape. Any thoughts?

Hope you all have a great time at the show on Saturday!

I have the pop door/ramp at the bottom of the left side wall, under the shelf with 4 nesting boxes. Above that is a shelf where they can sit and look out the window. The other side has a shelf at the same height, under which is the food/water. I used lino on the floor so I could scrape/wash it easily. I put rubbermaid underbed boxes under the roosting board (shelf height) so I can simply slide them out and empty them into the composter. I have a page up with our coop construction. It's called "coope diem". We've since more than doubled the run, and today we're adding an "isolation corner" where the babies can hide from the big girls.

Gotta get them outta my house!!!

I tryed to cheer myself up. Took a shower with my Bath & Body works stuff
I won at Bunko. Went and got myself a Starbucks iced vanilla latte. Now
I'm gonna play with my baby chicks. Bad dog, bad bad dog ! :(

I just saw a red fox take off across my front lawn at 1:30 in the afternoon. Hmmm.... should I put the hens back in the coop? I don't think the fox can fit through the fence to the back yard. Plus I want to believe it was about to kill the rabbit that likes to eat my annual flowers in the front.

I thought it was pretty odd to see fox during the day. Or am I thinking raccoon?
