Donna? Donna! Can you make a shirt for me that says Chicken Nerd? I know it's too late for tomorrow but I thought of it today and realized that's the design I need the most. Or Bird Nerd, whichever -
Tx,

Can anyone sell chickens tomorrow? My friend with the lousy neighbor wants to get rid of the rooster. He is an incredible Black Copper Marans ;one year old.Her husband wants her to put it down on Sunday it she can't find it a home.I have a couple calls in the the people that took the roosters I had to give away but haven't heard anything yet.
Throw him in the car, I'll just stick him in with the dozen or so

I already have for sale.
You know it's not a big money maker, but at least they are gone.

We went out to the diner to grab a bite and when we got back, the big girls were in the coop up on the roost as always. The little girls, however, were out in the run huddled in a corner.

Epic fail.

Needless to say, they are safe and sound in the brooder box in the next room. Tomorrow when I get back from Sussex, I'll give them some more face time with the hens, but they're not ready for the coop yet.

Heather, I hope that answers your question!

In feline news, Brutus is without doubt the sweetest cat I have ever lived with. (I can't say owned, because you don't OWN cats. They own you.) He's getting better - his eye is no longer runny, just a little red. He's still sneezing too, but he's bouncing around like crazy now. He's a cuddle monster, but loves to do the crazy kitten dance. We are sooo happy with him. The same cannot be said for Fiona, a/k/a Princess Crankypants. We decided that if he fell into the toilet, she'd close the lid and walk away. She has perfected her "Look of Death" to the point where he runs away when she sends it his way. She's too high and mighty to actually attack him. She prefers intimidation.

I'd like to see a faceoff between her and Gladys. Or better yet, my real ***** hen, Wanda.

So excited for tomorrow. Already laid out my tshirt and picked out the right pair of Chucks!

September is the Queens County fair, and the Old Bethpage Village Restoration fair.
October is the Sussex fall show.
And fall is the time of year for alot of the upstate fairs, too.

That's very good to know. Cause I'm gonna have Roos and hens I need to find homes for.
I figure max I can keep is 12 to 16. That's really too many but what am I to do. I want to keep one girl from each hatch. I already have 2 and MPC is sending me another 6 or 7 on the 30th.
I want to keep one Ameraucana one Barnevelder one golden cuckoo one Welly.
I only have one Apenzeller, 2 mottled java, and 3 legbar eggs left from my cooking accident so I don't know what I'm getting outa that hatch but if they all hatch and I get girls I want one of each of those. How many is that? Ugh. Oh it = 6 DUH it's only 6 chickens. So I'm totally good.

I decided to insulate the coop for 2 reasons, neither of which has to do with keeping my girls warm. One, I wanted to keep the noise to a minimum and figured insulation would soundproof it somewhat. Two, if we ever decide to give up chickens, we have a building that can serve many purposes. I didn't want Bobby to freeze when I kick his not-so-fluffy butt out.

The windows on the sides are sliders. We put hardware mesh on the outside of the one not enclosed by the coop, and on the inside screen half of both so the girls don't peck through the screens. The front windows are decorative only - the girls like to look out. The back wall has a vent to add ventilation to the coop.

We used regular pink insulation. It was one of the things we went back and forth on a couple of times before deciding to go with insulating the coop.
Oooh, I hope you don't think I was being critical, your coop is outsdanding and the run is fantastic. I wish mine was that cute. I was just posting an alternative resource of information for jocelynlg who was asking about insulating. We went back and forth about it too. We decided not to because the only reason we were considering it was for warmth and the local farmers all told us that if we did insulate to be sure to knock a wall out for air... smart alec farmers.

See everyone tomorrow!!!
