Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Summer vacation, day one: hammock skills practice cancelled due to weather. Scrambled eggs fresh from the fluffy butts.

We set up a calendar of appointments for the week (things are filling up fast). I called Touro and Adelphi to make advisement appointments, had a nice chat with mom, set up an appointment for service on my car and started planning our August trip to Buffalo.

Nap time!

I LOVE it!! And then use the money to buy more chickens...

Just booked our hotel reservations for the Erie County Fair. We go every year to stay with my brother, go to the Fair, go to see his band, hit the flea/farmers markets, etc. etc. Can't wait!! We're taking my mom with us this time. Ought to be a blast!!

George; I checked The Chicken Health Handbook, what a waste that book is. Absolutely nothing. Keep an eye on her and make sure it doesn't affect her breathing. Is it soft or hard like her beak(now that sounds perverted)???? Good luck

I checked the Avian Web, which is for other pet birds, and it said essentially the same thing: http://www.avianweb.com/beakdeformities.html

as long as the bump doesn't affect her breathing she'll be ok. If it was caused by an injury to the beak it will eventually grow out like a fingernail.

So jealous of your harvest!  I have a couple of tomatoes ripening and a lot of cucumber flowers, but for some reason the zucchini is rotting on the plant.  Out of 5, 3 have rotted before being big enough to harvest.  Ideas?

Thanks for all the kind words.  I believe God puts me where he wants me to be, and sometimes a lot of unrelated things come together for that reason.  I have a feeling this may be one of those times.  I'm going to make an appointment with Rick to discuss what he needs, then go to Adelphi and Touro and see what classes I need to take for HS/Special Ed certification.  THEN I'm going to investigate funding options.

The babies crawled under the chain link fence this evening.  It runs along the back of the yard and is about 8" from my neighbor's stockade fence.  We herded the girls to the corner where they crawled under and I pulled 3 out.  Of course, one of them went under the stockade fence into my not-so-nice neighbor's yard.  I scooped up one of the others and held her near the hole the other one went through.  Sure enough, she came back to her sibling (who was sending out quite an SOS).  I pulled her out and everyone went back into lockup.  Unfortunately, at some point in her escapade, she got a scrape on her beak, so I washed it off and put some bacitracin on it.  She settled right down with me and then didn't want to back in the coop.  She wouldn't let go of me.

Oh yeah, and then Brutus had his flea bath.  I'm exhausted.  What a day! :th

That was pretty smart thinking to get the stray back! Totally going to have to use that one in the future.

Your zuke is victim of too much rain. You can try removing some of the leaves to get more airflow going. I seem to have a chipmunk who wants to taste test all of the squash but not eat it all the way. He just nibbles on each one.
