Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

You guys?!! Stop posting all these adorable pics of silkies! I can't take it. When will I get my lil fluff ball? I can't sneak anymore in, or I'll get in trouble with the boss and the neighbors.
This heat just stinks, I don't know what I'm going to do with them tomorrow. Would it be crazy if I dumped a bag of grocery store ice into a plastic tub bin for them?
you NEED a silkie heather!

I last year took some big aluminum pan and gave them about 2" of ice water and they stood in them when it was so hot.Just dont do it round little ones as they might drown.

I fill up the old milk jugs with water and chuck them in the freezer.
Just leave them inside near the nest boxes.
And their fave is watermelon. But at $6 a pop, and they will eat one a day....
I just don't understand how 6 hens can eat a whole watermelon in one day!

Maggie, I'm on almost 2 acres. It's gonna be a while before I run out of room.....

I tried that already, even got some herbs to float in the pan to entice them in. All they did was poop in the water. Low class birds, lol!

Hmm I like the hanging ice idea but we get glass bottle milk. Maybe I can freeze a hanger string in a 32oz. yogurt container.

Mags if you go to CT stop by Westchester on your way, we'll hang out!

I grew watermelon last year by mistake and the chickens were living high. This year my seeds didn't pop. I think I have 1 plant out there and it's sugar baby.I can't afford to feed the spoiled girls mellons. I buy iceburg lettuce cheep and cabbage and they knock them around.

Heather, I'd love to go hang out sometime. Getting off this island on weekends seems near impossible anymore. DH works for the city in Manhatten so gets stuck in 1 1/2 to 2 hour traffic EVERY day on the BQE.He has to drive to carry his tools. 75 mi. round trip 5 days a week.
He doesn't want to even see a bridge come weekends.....yet less pay another big stinkin toll.

We are drowning in tolls here. $12.00 for Outerbridge unless you use EZpass. then it's $9.90....yea big deal right??
Verrazano is $5.90 using the pass and if he dares to take the GW bridge and NJ Turnpike to save 20 minutes it costs $17.00 in tolls.
I can't believe the cost of living here anymore...............forget aqbout the gas.

Robeerta, let's see how many birds you can get by summer's end!!! The race is on.............

So I was moping around this morning, not getting my butt in gear when I finally took a shower and left to do some errands. DD for coffee, Library to return a DVD, then PO to mail a package. I was feeling so proud of myself for finally getting out when who do I run into but the b***ch who took my desk right out from under me when I was leaving my old school. She's a Dual Language teacher - the reason I lost my job in the first place. On my last day (last year) at the school I had been at for 7 years, I'm standing there with tears running down my cheeks and she asks if she can have my desk. Then puts her name on it while I'm still sitting at it!

As I texted to Bobby: It's a good thing that when I ran into her I wasn't in the car!

Wrecked my whole mood.

Sorry, the multi quote function does not work on my iPad:

Queenchick: Thanks for offering your gold polish.  When I drive my son back to Kings college in Wilkes Barre, PA I'm going to meet up with a young lady near Scranton. We are giving her our WC blue roo and I know that she really wants a gold roo also.

Magsrags: thank you for the nice compliments and congrats on your egg order, can't wait to see pics, my hubby used to drive White Plains with a daily commute of 4 hrs! What a pain for me as my kids were still in school and I was doing all the after school stuff by myself.

Stoopid: the black silkies are from Laura Jonik, they are from a bl x bl breeding, Laura's rooster is from Amy Piehl, I believe Laura was on a wait list for several years to get this rooster from Amy...and he is amazing, I was looking up and down the east coast trying to find pure black chicks and Laura  just happened to hatch these babies while I was in VA, we picked them up on our way home, they do not have any DQ's.....
