Charlie and his chicks

Love the cake and adorable crocheted chick! And I am jealous of everyone's veggies....I've got garden envy.

On a different note...recently a post was copied from a BYC thread and placed on another website forum with reference to BYC. I would like to CAUTION everyone to be careful of what is put in writing. I'd like to share what I tell my son....be careful not to put anything in writing unless you are comfortable seeing it on the front page of the newspaper. My mom always said "be careful of what you say snd how you say it". I'm sorry to sound so motherly....you never know who reads these forums and how the content will be interpreted.
Now, I'm off to search for a cute baby hat I made...hope to find it and take a pic for you all.
What's this about? Can you explain further? I usually try to keep that mantra in mind when writing stuff on forums - "The internet is forever" - but now I'm nervous again.

Heather, I'm glad the milk cure worked. This year I have no problem with ours because I learned not to crowd them. They need that three feet, and more, in all directions between plants. The other thing is that you can get a bumper crop and not be able to eat or give them all away. We only put in three Zucchini plants this year. And I think we are one too many
Your tomatoes are suffering from too much water. That is why they are splitting. We've had those soaking rains so that will make them split open like that. Ours have had that happen to them, and they are heirlooms as well. I haven't watered the garden for a couple of weeks now because of the rains.
We've had no luck with
the beans this year. They didn't even climb like they were supposed to. Gardening success changes from year to year for us. Mostly, I've learned to cut down on the things that are more of a novelty and just grow just enough of what we use on a regular basis. I started doing some Permaculture stuff a few years ago, but I'm too fatigued to keep up with trying toget it right. I do try to stay totally organic, if that's possible, and let nature take its course. I don't even weed until its our of control. The plants seem to do better with the least amount of intervention. I never till the soil, eitherl. That's what the worms are there for. And we do have loads of 'em. Last year I had worm castings that covered the soil area of the garden all spring long. I did a lasagna bed set up and simply add to it each year. Very little in the way of organic fertilizers, and it all does very well for me. The simpler the better.

I'm with you on that, Al. My zucchini problems have differed from year to year, so I guess it's a learning process. My garden is way overcrowded this year, mostly because of the cucumbers. I should prune them or remove one of them, but they're so chock full of blooms, I hate to give them up. I planted cukes and tomatoes only because that's what we (I) eat. And zucchini. The acorn squash plant is not looking so good today, but it's been so dry here for the last couple of days. Tonight we had a torrential downpour, so maybe that will help.

Nothing bad....someone on a different thread made some comments and a few days later.... I saw the post from BYC copied and placed on another forum with comments if its own. I'm sure the original poster has no idea her post was copied.

It just reminded me of a discussion i recently had with my son and some of his college buddies.  I let them know that businesses and corporate recruiters now use all sources available to them to check on potential interns and employees...including Facebook.  And the funny thing is..l after my little chit chat with the guys, I decided to look at my sons Facebook page. I was mortified when I found something that was posted there without his knowledge. Told him to clean it up ASAP.

You never know who is "lurking" on these threads. I know of some breeders who regularly read a particular thread, but never post anything. I try really hard to scrub my words and only type what I would be comfortable saying in person

We went to my mom's this afternoon to trim some branches for her. I was holding one back while Bobby sawed through it. Break out the AFV cameras, folks. The branch cut loose and I fell backwards right flat on my back. It was seismic. I shook it off so as not to worry my mother, but I'm hurting now. The small of my back, right above the padded part. I can't wait 'til tomorrow!

To top things off, my fortune cookie at dinner was empty. Like I didn't already know my future is doomed...

My mother was cute, though. She greeted me at the door with a bowl of cherry tomatoes from the plant I gave her.

Good morning!

Ahhhh.....the rain seemed to somewhat clear the air if even just a bit. My garden enjoyed it for sure. It has been so warm I have a bumper crop of squash/zuccini to use up, so today is chop-chop day.
