Is this the gal upstate that I am supposed to help deliver... the EOs?

Hugs to you, too. This weather has been horrible, and the birds are taking a beating because of it.

If you decide to vaccinate, these meds usually do 1,000 birds.
I will share if you want, we are so close.
I have Mareks on order, have Fowlpox in the fridge, and am afraid to see how much this will cost for all the others.
The Mareks is only supposed to be done on day old chicks.
Go figure, it's on backorder.
If the mfg made a "small flock" bottle, it wouldn't get thrown out every time someone used it on 50 chicks.
PM me if you would like to talk about this.
Everyone is welcome....this shiRt adds up big, and once the bottle is activated, it is only good for a few hours.
We could have a vaccination clinic...
I just don't know if we would be giving all the birds a death sentence having them all together.
sigh.
Do you vaccinate for fowlpox regularly? I was wondering about that with my chicks...I chose the mareks vaccine on my chicks, but was wondering if there are other things I should be concerned about.

CFG is in hiding... I have one of my best babies showing signs of Mareks.
I am probably over reacting to another sickness... but am not taking any chances.
All hatching, and any other contact, is put on hold until I figure this out.
All of the symptoms DO NOT match. The vet says it is NOT Mareks.
But I have quarantined my self, and everything, until I figure out what is going on.

Anyone that went to the fair, if you brought a jacket, or touched any bird... please wash them just in case.

But really, I have only 1 bird out of many, just won't walk. Eating, drinking, she can move her legs, just being lazy.
She is in quarantine in the house.

OH NO!!! I'm praying really hard for your babies!!

I hope she's just reacting to bad weather like I do-by laying down and eating.

Oh I do so hope that it's just a one-day situation and that the little chicken is all better tomorrow. Sickness is such a bummer. 'Specially when you're not sure what the problem is.
Am sending good thoughts your way. Stay sane.... Weather's enough to drive anyone mad.

I have never vaccinated for anything.
I figured if they are gonna get it...
But now that I have a few "special" babies.
And the fact that I am traveling all over creation to go to shows....
oy.

So now that I'm completely happy doing the private tutoring thing (having my mornings off, only working an hour at a time with each kid, connecting with moms, etc.) I get an email from the owner of the Sylvan franchise from which I took an "unemployment leave". I let them know I wasn't going back to school anytime soon and so wouldn't be coming off unemployment, so wouldn't be coming back to work, etc. etc. The owner wants me to come in to meet with him to "discuss my situation". I have a feeling he may offer me a management position. Which would totally screw up my private tutoring business, but which would provide me with a regular paycheck and possibly health insurance, although not a great salary.

I know I'm getting ahead of myself. I don't know what he's going to say. But I feel very strongly about keeping with the private tutoring business and seeing where it leads. As I told Rosie, sometimes life is a hoot. I think God has a great sense of humor...

We're heading to Lambertville this weekend. My meeting's Monday morning. I'll keep you posted.

Carolyn: congrats on the egg! I love finding eggs, I'm like a little kid when I spot something in the nest box. Our chickens are soooo therapeutic.

Stoopid: Since you re dealing with a potential illness, maybe it's a good thing that the vaccine is on backorder?

Dahli: I hope your necropsy has good results.

Sallysec: the dust from brooding chicks creeps up on you....at first you don't really notice it, then when you do....it's already out of control. I would suggest brooding them in your garage, with a large space like 5x5 or bigger. Try putting a tarp (from Home Depot) on the garage floor, then cardboard on top of it, and finish off with shavings sprinkled generously with PDZ. Those babies are going to be inside a long time. If you give them lots of room, they can huddle under the heat bulb when cold, and move away from it when warm.

Smkchk: see what they have to say at Sylvan...they may give you a great offer!

To all wondering about eggies...
I have been building the master-incu-bator.
It will hold at least....235 eggs.
That is the reason I have been verrrrry slow to finish it.
The MOTHER of all shows is January, the sales room....

Let me know if you want in.
I need to run a test hatch to make sure everything is good, but after that...

I also have brooders that will hold HUNDREDS.
I haven't let onto this because, well, it will be like a crack house in my garage

And basement.
But hey, how else am I gonna get out of a winter depression?
