Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

ohhhh.....OK. I 'm sorry....wasnt even thinking of the $. Just the breed availability. Sorry..............now I feel like crap. :/

Mags you are funny
I thought someone would make a comment on the "working girl"thing
I can just see it now with a big old rooster "John"

Well, I finished all 110 squares for my Hurricane Afghan. Now comes the part I hate: sewing them all together.

I opened up the coop today and everyone stood in the doorway looking at the snow. Bobby went hysterical when one of them pushed Mabel out. She jumped right back in, but then Lola came out when she saw me getting food for them. But her little feet got very red so she went back in also. They crack me up!

I managed to find a few stuffed animals I had forgotten about in my school stuff so I added a box of books and a box of toys/markers/construction paper to the three bags of clothes/bedding I had for the fire department. I feel good knowing I did something, no matter how small.

I was thinking about fostering a dog that's been displaced by the storm.

I tell you this has not been a good stretch for anyone. I'm so tired. We lost cable again. Not that it matters but it sort of does. Tired. Mags I didn't think to cover my rosemary before the snow. I did dig up dahlia bulbs and a mess of green onions & arugula but that was it. Eh I'm putting in a bunch of butterfly attractors in the spring. It's supposed to hit 60 this weekend.

Oh and did anyone get the email from My Pet Chicken about 2013 being ready for orders? I do not have room. I do not have room. Oh but I want some bitty chickies!!

I had a bit of a rough day with the death of our splash silkie that we have been tube feeding...and then having a contract meeting for a tiny grant that my non profit has been awarded. I have a small agency that supports families caring for individuals with developmental disabilities and we have a grant from NYS to provide some supportive services. Unfortunately, NYS considers grants as "contracts" with an amazing amount of paperwork, rules and regulations. We havent been paid this entire year for our work. I found out today that our contract paperwork for 2012 was not processsed and may have been lost...which explains why we haven't even paid this year at all. I could just scream in frustration. I really hope tomorrow is a better day.

Here is my website in case you know of any families dealing with disabilities ---> www.f2fr.org

Lord, I wish I had the time to really concentrate on crocheting. Hauling wood with the boys, and trying to do my coupon thing has taken up literally hours and days. I hate not being disgusting rich.

As if that's something I ever was. My parents were poor immigrants...but heck, in my dreams I was a pretty pretty princess.

Yep! I looked on their list then made myself stop. I have certain breeds I want...and the thought of a cuddly little peep was too overwhelming. I'm like a peep addict. It's BAD.

Oh Tina, I'm SO SORRY you had a horrible day! Hopefully this mornings clearer skies will help you feel a little better. State regulations are crazy. You should see the paperwork Danny had to do to become licensed in Nassau county. (Home improvements Contractor) Suffolk was twice the money, but half the paperwork. Sometimes I think they make it so difficult so that some people just give up. I hope they give you what you need!

Good morning!

I see so far we didn't have too much trouble last nite. I think I have around 3" of heavy snow on the ground and the trees. No other issues at THIS moment.
hmm.png
roads are clearing pretty fast and dh got into brooklyn no problems at 7am. I'm afraid to talk......
I hope the warmer air pushes through fast and gets rid of this snow. I havent had time to get my elephant ear bulbs out of the ground for winter.
We got mostly falling ice and wet snow. Made for an interesting drive to pick Sean up from his wrestling meeting. Especially considering the gas lines down the block and around the corner to his school...like driving in a narrow tunnel of angry people. I felt like I was in a video game.
Girls are afraid to walk on the snow.
I didn't get my blueberry bushes or fig wrapped. We will see next year.
My girls popped their heads out and RAN at the bit of snow that blew into the pen. When they realized it wasn't food and it was cold-they eyeballed it suspiciously then pecked at it some more. I could watch them all day long.
So funny, my youngest girls popped out the coop to stand there looking at all that white stuff surrounding their new pen.....and hesitated for a NY Minute... before plunging into their usual feed frenzy.
I am so glad my dh built me a nice pen with a real roof so I don't have to shovel them out anymore. Phew.....that is what I call priceless. I feel spoiled.

I am such a cheep date.
I was thinking God and the stars above for the roof on the girls pen. I gotta tell you-judging from the stuff that landed on the roof last wee alone-the pen would have been wrecked. I too am a very cheap date, but it means I'm happier with less. It's cool.
Vera is hatching out Silkie chicks like a fool. Mostly Splash and Blue.
Problem is they are too young to be sexed.
[email protected] or Riverside Silkies on facebook.
She is in Wading River, but I am considering a road trip next week to drop off some Shamos to Mass.
COME ON! Didja HAVE to post the email? Now I'm going to have to think about some more chickies again. Well, could be worse. Chickens could be the size of cows and eat as much as a pig. (I have no clue where that came from. I need to get out of the house...my mind is shot)

Have an awesome day, peeps! I have resigned myself to the "It's gonna be a BAAAAD winter so suck it up" attitude. I find it's comforting to just give myself over to the inevitable.

I figure that last winter we got a freak snowstorm early, and then nothing. Maybe that will be the pattern this year too. We can hope.

I WILL NOT look at emails about chicks. I will not, I will not...

I did, however, look online for info about fostering a dog displaced by Sandy. I'm surprised not to find that much. I though that would be a slam dunk.

Yep, did I mention that Agway still has chicks in Riverhead?
It seems there aren't too many stoopid people buying chicks this time of year.
That's why I have 18 in my spare bathroom.
ALL WINTER LONG.

Um, REALLY??? (What's the address there?) I'm staying FAR away from my computer in hopes that I'll forget to email about silkies...

See? It's really working for me. I'm FAR away...um, wait...
