Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Just found out a friend of mine (Suzanne, you met her at the Congress, it's BethG) just had a weasel or some other beast get into her barn and killed 51 of her birds.
She is out at the Ohio Nationals. In shock, and devastated.
Another reason to never leave the house,

And another local friend just had to euthanize a bunch of her birds because Greenfire Farms sold her sick birds.
Don't buy from GFF!!! This is not the first time I have heard of these problems from them.

And I have to kill 3 more of my babies, Mareks has not gone away.
Will probably do it tomorrow so they can hit the garbage. Can't bury them.

Oh and did anyone get the email from My Pet Chicken about 2013 being ready for orders? I do not have room. I do not have room. Oh but I want some bitty chickies!!

Haha. I got the email also. I picked out 4 (my minimum order)
even though I really shouldn't get more. If I do I should just bite
the bullet and order CL from greenfire. MPC said they would be
selling them but so far they only had eggs.

I wish both my chicks survived cause I want to put momma
back outside with the flock. I don't want to put the baby back out
cause it's so cold and she's used to the warm house now.
I dunno what I'm doing anymore. I really don't want them in the
house till spring but I'm so afraid to lose the last chick.

I've been so busy cooking up and storing my CSA winter veggies.
My coat closet is full of squash and potatoes. Made some practice
pumpkin pies yum! Had to make sure the recipe was ready for the
holidays lol.
Been messing with my reef aquarium. Basically took the whole
thing apart to clean it. Rearranged the rock work. Came up with a huge
list of things I must buy for it. Ugh. Guess that will be my Xmas gift to
myself. stick with chickens.
Helped move my niece out of her flooded apt into a new one near her
school. I feel bad for the owner of the house, it STINKS like low tide and
rotten fish. They have some major renevation to do.
Finally got tv back, but actually I don't care, I get so much more done
without it.

OH NO. :(
That's awful. Thanks for the info on GFF. I was gonna save up for CL from them.
I think I should not add anymore to my flock. I'd hate to get my girls sick.

She just had to kill like 22 of her birds, because of GFF.
She contacted them, they offered her a refund, minus shipping, like $30.
NOT!!!!

Let's do the zoo Monday. Heather, Janie and Lia are always welcome as far as I'm concerned. 90% of what's said around kids goes over their heads anyway, especially in a zoo. Too much else to pay attention to.

It's a good day for so many of us anyway.

Carolyn, I wish you could come with us. But I understand your feelings. My daughter had issues with anxiety and leaving the house, especially taking car trips, etc. She has less trouble now, but still feels more comfortable when she drives herself.

Be careful. We might just invite ourselves over and invade your space en masse!

Hey, hey, I love company. I'll make the devilled eggs; somebody bring some whatever. This could be the perfect time to make a big mix and match use of some of my paper party plates, napkins, and plastic forks and spoons and stuff left from over five decades of making parties. That way, no dishes to wash and a fun time will be had by all. Oh I'm getting excited. Monday, my house, I'm in Freeport. ( that is, if you all agree that that's what you want to do., of course.). I've got about 22 rooms here in this big ole house, one bunny rabbit, and four chickens . Not nearly as many critters as the queens farm/zoo though.

Send me a pm if you want my address and I'll send it to you in a return pm.

I could do Freeport on Monday and leave the girls with my babysitter. It's about an hour away for me. When and where? Carolyn I hate to impose on you - are you really ok with us coming over? We could all bring yarn projects too.

Absolutely ok with you all coming over. Maybe some one of you yarn wisewomen will show me how to do the next step in the bunny rabbit yarncraft that I started working on about three years ago. I remember that I stopped doing it because it was time to change yarns to another color and I didn't know how to do it. It's been so long, I've actually forgotten whether it was a crochet project or a knitting project! We shall see. If I can find it and pull it out of the cupboard. BTW, one of the basement rooms is a kids' playroom, so feel free to bring your kids (and the babysitter too, so the kids will have supervision. There are puzzles, and a hobby horse and a cloth playhouse and toddler toys too. The sunporch also has a kid friendly space, with a dollhouse and puzzles and tinkertoys and stuff. And a mechanical pony that's very sweet. Bringing the babysitter is a very good idea if it's possible. (There's one or two fragile antiques in the house that kids need to avoid.) Big backyard for running around, with a small plastic "fort" for climbing and playing on. Bring some big balls to throw maybe. And maybe some bubbles to blow. Whatever. If the weather's really nice, we can sit outdoors for a bit. And if anyone likes playing Rummy Q, I got that. Also scrabble, mah jongg, and a great big book to look at with gorgeous photos of gorgeous chickens.

I'm SO unhappy right now. Took Kairi (Kitty) to the vet. He's got cystitis, crystals, and possibly stones. Ultrasound, xrays, UA, Bloodwork...Kairi took it like a man...it was 1384.00.

I almost fainted. I have insurance, but they reimburse me. (And certainly not all of it) I adore my fuzzy boy, and I just want him well, but now bills will have to wait, and I'm not happy about that.

I'm going to sit down with a slice of pizza I can ill afford, and a beer, and have a little cry. UGH. I hate this. I must have PMS on top of it all.
