My entire world is loaded with dander.
sigh.

Mine too. Plus dog hair, cat hair, and laundry lint...

That easily spread, is VERY scary.

I have been reading your posts (yes! I lurk here!), And wonder if anyone would mind if I post of Stoopid's marek's disease in the other NY thread? And if I may ask, has a necropsy been done? Stoopid, where are you located?
I am so sorry to hear of your outbreak. I hope your flock recovers soon and I will be sending positive energy your way.

Well, I was up until 2:30 am, but I'm STILL not done with the Hurricane Afghan. I have two more rows to attach, then the border to do. I love it, but it has been so much work I'll be glad to finish. There are soooo many other projects I want to do!

Carol, I ordered that book you showed me. Plus another one for good measure. I figure I'll have to live to be like 150 years old to get everything done that I want to do. It will take me that long to finish up all the yarn I have!

Roberta, hang in there. We're all sending up chickie prayers.

We need PICTURES of the hurricane afghan!!! I'm still plodding along on the 19 swapping squares...Maybe since the hubster won't be home tonight OR tomorrow night, I'll get some stuff done-those squares included. I want to send them out and be done so I can start the extras I want to make to make the afghan bigger!

Oh, I already have a plan to live to 150, so I keep putting things off until I'm 90 or so. I figure my last 60 years will be playing catch up...

Sure, it's like telling everyone I have Aids.
Problem is, I am sure I picked it up at a show somewhere, in fact there was one in particular that everyone had problems at.
Not naming names to protect the innocent, but I have never had any disease in the 10 years I have had chickens.
Only started showing about 2 years ago, but this year was the killer. Literally.
Marquisella and I spoke about it a little bit, unfortunately I had never vaccinated for anything.
Now, I have all the vaccines in my fridge, ready to be administered.
The biggest problem in NY is getting needles.
My vet said she would work with me on that.
Buy holy crap, last time I saw Peter Brown (First State Vet Supply) I spent $505.33.
Ouch that hurt, and many of my birds are not showbirds, just pets.
Makes me wonder if it's all really worth it.

Again, let me say how sorry I am for your...frustration, grief and loss of birds. Sheesh! your vet should work with you!! Last year my birds got lice and yes, I felt contaminated. You also have my empathy.

I have not vaccinated my chickens for anything either. I will post on the other NY thread so we all will be aware that it is out there and closer to home than one might think, especially when birds are migrating.

Hope this goes away soon.

Carolyn, Thanks again. In the photo from left to right-Howlinggood, smkchick, Cheeky chick,Imprfctme and me queenchick16. You were right on with are names.
The Jerusalem artichokes should be put in a large container for next years crop.
Don't put them in your yard or garden. They are extremely invasive. There are some very neat recipes floating around the Internet.
They taste similar to a potatoe only slightly sweet. Carol

I brought 2 different birds to my vet at different times, and was told it WAS NOT Mareks.
So instead of catching it right away, the contamination continued for MONTHS.
I am so lucky it has just been a few birds, and not my whole flock.
And everyone else's flocks that I know.
Very scary stuff, for sure. And I trust my vet, it seems she is just inexperienced with this disease.

I think that is why necropsy is so important. Trusting your Vet is not the problem. They can only diagnose what they know. So few Vets deal with chickens. Have you been in contact with a poultry specialist? Or someone at Cornell?
