Southern Wisconsin Meet Up

This sounds like fun, I just read about the get together.....

The first is less than 2 weeks away.....is there a place picked yet to meet up? Seems like it's still a little disorganized....so I might just fit in nicely. haha.

WIChookchick - I can bring some hatching eggs

What kinds of breeds are you thinkin about bringin?

If I can get the final details.....I'll talk to hubby and then can make the decision....

Thanks!

Here is a link to a map of Mukwonago County Park. Just click on the pic & it will expand the picture so you can zoom & look around.
There are some buildings on the west side of the park. I want to go check them out to see exactly what they are, to see if we could maybe use one of them if it is cold/inclimate weather?
Otherwise there are "four reservable 20' x 30' covered shelters with cement base are available throughout the year with water (may not be available during the winter months), electricity, outdoor restrooms, large grill, and sand pit volleyball w/net and picnic tables".
From looking on the map, I think the second picnic shelter area looks pretty good. It is the second one from the right on the map, and the second one you'd come to after entering the park (the one with the oval parking lot, the site on the right side). Either of those 2 sites by the oval parking lot would suffice actually. I'm just trying to narrow it down a little.
If it is cold that day, there are camping sites further back (north) in the park that do not have shelters but do have fire pits for making a bonfire.

When is a good time? Noon? 11ish? Earlier? Later?
I was planning on bringing a monster salad, unless people would rather have hot dishes?
I can bring some buns, Cind.
Everyone BYOB! Bring Your Own Beverage.

Sound good?

About the southern bash:
Ok, DH & I took a bike ride after work today up to Mukwonago Co. park. It is very nice but there are a few issues I figured I better address.
They have a sign up saying you have to pay $5 to enter the park on the weekends, but there was noone there to collect the money, just a drop box to put the money in. So, does everyone want to pay to get into the park, or would you rather look elsewhere? Oct. 1st is almost here, so a decision should be made soon. Also, the toilets are pit type.
Any thoughts? Preferences? Suggestions? Schmidt can it?

I posted on "our" thread too...any Waukesha park will charge a fee...I think Dane does too. Jefferson county does not. Alternatively we could go to Aztalan State park...shelters, flush toilets (handi accessible) and water. (and it's right down the road from my house!!!)

CC you could get the goat! This park is severely underused and I do not believe we would have any trouble meeting there even at the last minute. TErri O

It is still up in the air about the Dancing horses. My sister has been really sick so hasn't felt like talking. She sounds terrible. I will try to pin her down with a time. Go ahead and you guys do what all works out for you. If it happens to be on the 15th and I'm not tied up

I can try to make it. Does the park you're thinking about have an indoor building ?

From what I have discovered, a building in a park requires a rental fee, and they aren't cheap, at least around here.
The 2 parks we have considered both have a fee to get into the park. I don't know if this is a problem with anyone?
Aztalan is a state park and has an admission fee of $7, unless you already have an annual sticker.
Mukwonago Co. Park has an admission fee of $5, but I am not even sure there will be anyone there to collect it or not. They have a drop box on the honor system. They have shelters in the picnic areas, and they also have camping areas further back off the road which do not have shelters, but they do have fire pits.
Camping: Come to the park during the day and stay the night at either the 6 reserved group camp sites or pop your tent at one of the 30 sites in the first come, first serve family camping area. Picnic tables, a firepit and outdoor restrooms are available.
They also have a heated building for rent, but the price is outrageous & doesn't start until Nov.:
Building Rentals: Reservation Request
The recreation center can be rented for day and overnight use in the off season (Nov. - Mar.) This heated facility has refrigerator, stove, soda machine, hot and cold water, sink, electricity, indoor restrooms, 6 - 6 foot tables and 40 chairs. Capacity 50/25 overnight.

So if anyone knows of a park that we could meet at that doesn't require a fee, (is there such a thing anymore?) then please let us know.
And as for the date, does anyone have a problem with Oct. 15th?

As for the bash, it will be on Oct. 22nd at Korth Park in Lake Mills. It is pretty close to I-94, and has a newer shelter that has a kitchen area. If you go to Google maps, just type in Korth Park, Lake Mills & you can see it.

Here is a writeup of it from the Jefferson Co. website, and the link is below. They have some pics of the shelter. It is the second set of pics, & they should be labeled "Korth Lane Shelter".

Korth Park: 89 Acres
Located in Lake Mills on Rock Lake, Korth Lane E of County Highway S. Korth Park was purchased in 2000 to protect the water quality and fish habitat of Rock Lake. A packed limestone bicycle trail along the shore of Rock Lake connects Cedar Lane to Elm Point Road. A connecting trail to the Glacial Drumlin Trail, just to the south, was completed in 2003 on land purchased by the WIDNR. This trail connection creates a loop path around Rock Lake.
Existing Facilities - 28x40 wooden shelter on Elm Point Road, 3,500 square foot, three-season shelter with kitchen facilities on Korth Lane, packed gravel trail along Rock Lake, restrooms, grills, connecting trail to Glacial Drumlin Trail, shoreline restoration, prairie restoration and tree planting
