All,

Have 3 Hamburgs in our flock of 100 hens. When we clean the boxes and straighten up the coop, if we put a 5 gallon pail with some shavings on top of the hen boxes (used for refreshing the hen boxes), one of the Hamburgs with fly up and hop in and lay an egg. Almost every time. Makes a little nest and leaves a little (medium) white egg. If we don't go in the coop or leave a pail on the egg boxes, they will lay their eggs in the regular hen boxes with out other hens.

Is there, or should I, make a hen box(s) that have a open top for them. The Hamburgs. I'm not sure if it is the privacy or that the other hens don't bother with the pail. Maybe the Hamburgs want their own box??

Thanks,
