Sparky's all grown up...new pics!

If they were stressing her than I'm glad she's not with them.

I still can't get over bathing a chicken...it make me giggle each time I see that pic!!!

I don't know if I've just been lucky or what but my fave chick has never pooped on me and she's been on my shoulder or chest 'napping' for a half hour or so at a time...today she climbed down my arm and calmly crapped on the couch and then crawled back up to nap some more.

But like you, I should probably invest in diapers.

Today started off exactly as normal...wake up and immediately go upstairs to turn the eggs in the bators. However, Sparky had a surprise for me this morning...the moment I turned the light on, Sparky began CROWING!

I had suspicions a few weeks ago, when Sparky's comb started getting "fat", that I had a roo. But the extreme mothering/nurturing personality kept me convinced that "she" had to be a hen.

Heck, just last week I put a 2 week old black mottled bantam cochin in with Sparky...and nothing happened. Sparky accepted the chick from the very beginning, without even a squawk. I guess I just have a remarkable little roo!

For the first time ever, I'm not upset that one of my chicks is a roo!

As long as Sparky's crows are limited to "60 watt exposure" and he continues to play nicely with the younger chicks, he'll remain in the house until Spring.

Finding this out actually makes me love Sparky even more...if that's possible!

This whole thread begs of a children's book!!! I was a kindergarten teacher and I would have given anything to have a storybook with pictures to show my kids when we hatched eggs in the Spring. I think EVERYBODY is in love with Sparky. I know I am!!!

Sparky is indeed a special little guy to us. I never in a million years would've guessed that I could become so attached to a chicken...much less let one live in my house!

I doubt many people have ever experienced a chicken like Sparky either.

If I didn't live out in the middle of nowhere, I'd actually consider taking Sparky to retirement/nursing homes and let him brighten up the days of the "age enhanced" residents. I bet Sparky would definitely bring smiles to a lot of faces.

Oh, he would! He would!! I've brought "special" chickens like Sparky to the two assisted living places where my mother lived. They were always a hit with the residents. Seems no one could identify my silkie as a chicken. LOLOL My most treasured little chicken, Miss Gold, was an OEGB hen who got seriously injured by an over-zealous rooster (a bantam, at that!) and had her spine injured (broken according to the xray the vet took). She lived in the house with us until she got well. Every time I went to visit my mother, I'd take Miss Gold in a sling a kind-hearted BYCer made for her. I would put her on the floor when she began to stand and every one would gather around and ooh and aah over her. Then she would lay a poop!

It was embarrassing. I learned to put paper towels under her. After about 6 months she was walking around and roosting with the rest of the flock. She even laid an egg once in a while but she never walked quite right after that. After all those months of rehab and loving her to death, a fox got her one day. I'll never forgive myself for that!!! RIP, Miss Gold.
