I have half heartily tried to sell eggs in our community but we never sold the first one. I know I could be aggressive and sell them but I never really wanted to. We have been giving them to our neighborhood. As far as egg production I am getting a little less than 1 doz a day. Our family may eat 2 doz a week. So a surplus about 5 doz a week. Here is our plan. We want to have a Egg ministry. Don’t laugh... This just might do some good. First we gather the eggs and package them in egg cartons with stickers that have GODS WORD on them. Who knows... maybe someone who has never read a word of the Bible before could for the first time read Gods Word from one of our egg cartons. Of course they are free as long as they last. We could also target houses where we think there could be hunger.. that is not always easy to see but God can lead us how he want us to distribute.

We have prayed about this and feel like we are being called into this egg ministry. We are considering increasing the flock to be able to reach more people. In fact we have one broody to hatch on Tuesday and my Dads incubator set with 40 or so eggs also. I posted a “wanted” ad in the local freecycle and one lady has agreed to donate some building supplies that they bought and never used(I didn’t post what I needed the building material for).

Our family’s budget operateds from week to week and is often tight. One quick observation is that as our flock increases so will the feed bill. I am thinking that we should trust the Lord to provide for that and if it is meant to be we will work it out.

On a side not my 15 yr old son and 17 yr old son have already jumped in and have been helping with deliveries

I would love to hear of any comments or ideas you guys may have?

(Now I am glad I never sold the first egg)

We have continued our egg ministry and now that the new flock is laying very well we are currently producing more than 120 dozen eggs a month. Selling Baby Chicks has off set the cost of feeding the hens (they eat about 250 lbs per week). God has supplied all of our needs and we are praising Him for the opportunity He has given us. We have started hatching our own new flock every couple years and it has helped in keeping cost down. Just wanted to point out that we are still around and still spreading as much love as we can in our community. Praise the Lord!

The truth is we could just drop off these eggs at the local pantry and move them to a needy person but our goal is for something more personal. We walk up to to a neighborhood door and introduce ourselves. Then we offer them the free farm fresh eggs. We also let them know where we go to church and invite them to come. This opens up the door to see if they need or want prayer. Never being pushy but getting to know them month by month. Even the kids get to know me and I hear them telling there mom "Hey the egg man is here"

We are about to conduct an experiment with volunteers in our church congregation to see if they would like to participate since this is become a big job. Maybe if a few people are willing to help it would be more productive and remain very personal.

I know they are not a valuable commodity to give a way but a lot of it is just doing a kind gesture showing people that you care with out any strings attached.

Love your idea. I am reminded of the promise that God's word does not return empty or void. So I can't help but think people will be affected by the Bible verse you put on the carton, along with you showing Christ's love and generosity. You might want to put your name and number, or your church's address on the carton, too, in case your "customers" want to respond. May the good Lord bless your efforts.

I think that's awesome! Go for it! I'm glad you didn't sell that first egg too! Sometimes what we think are delays and set-backs are just God's way of opening a better door. Be blessed in your endeavor and trust the Lord to work out the provisions. I know He will!

I think he would likely just pray for them. What is wrong with wanting to share good things with others? He's not forcing anything, but he is inspiring many people to stop being selfish and share. Regardless of the religious perspective, this is good and from the heart. It's eggs, in a package that states his beliefs, but it's eggs, not the package, that these people are needing the most. If they get something from the package it is only because they were open to recieving it to start with. Otherwise, it's still just an egg carton

No different than selling eggs with a printed business logo on the carton. He's just advertising his heartfelt purpose

Update:

We have winter well with steady stream of about 50 eggs a day. With spring around the corner we have decided to go ahead and retire the wood burning stove for the year so we have pulled it out and made room for a new pantry cabinet that the lord made available to us. Maybe we can offer a few other food items to those who have the most need. Praise the Lord.
