Sparrow Ministries - 01-06-2012 Cleaning room done!

Update:

Deliveries last week included about 12 doz eggs. Even though my personal flock has increased production my other local farms have started saving a lot of there eggs for incubating. So I have not had the best luck getting my hands on extra eggs this week but I’m hoping for a more productive next week

I have moved the new Flock(about 25 production red sex-link pullets 13 week old) to temporary housing since I have yet figured out to finance a new chicken house for them. If I get a chance I’ll post a few pics of there new “camp”.

How are you guys doing with giving eggs to your community away?

God Bless!

Mike

I have donated a total of 22 dozen eggs to local folks and just gave 8 dozen to my church to be used to make potato salad for a fund raising barbecue. So far, folks in the church and at my job have kept me in empty egg cartons.

I have 32 new babies I just hatched out that hopefully will increase egg counts in the near future.

Update:

It has been a while since my last update. We continue to supply eggs to our regular families hoping for a boost this summer to include even more families. I am gearing up for deliveries this week just before Easter. I have a few families with small children who I may try to include a packet of egg coloring with their eggs this week

My laying flock is doing well. I gathered 15 eggs yesterday and the size of these eggs are getting bigger as these layers approach the 1 yr mark. I intend on keeping this flock for a few years BUT I also have the new flock that will more than double our daily egg output. I expect these layers will start laying by about May.

I have vision of new chicken house that starts with a concrete floor and a design that will make Sparrow Ministries more productive and effective. I don’t know any way to make this happen unless the Lord steps in and makes a way. We really need a good solid chicken house built since the one I have is way too small and is probably about 10 yrs old. I want to produce fresh healthy eggs and I would love to have concrete floors to shovel out regularly. I have a endless supply of free sawdust from my employer so that part is at no cost to me. There’s lots of work involved in the two flocks we have at the moment but I am pleased with the results. Including our half grown pullets, I am cleaning up after, feeding, and watering about 50 chickens at the moment. I work a full time job that includes about 55-60 hours of my time every week. My son and wife help when I can’t keep up. If I could produce a proper facility then I would like to recruit teens from the local high school to gain their community service through our Ministry, since they need the community service anyway to graduate. I think it would be a great experience for them to see how a little selfless hard work can help others in need.

faykokoWV has been a great blessing to our family and our work in this community. She has kept Sparrow Ministries supplied with fresh, new egg cartons at a significant cost to her. She has always done this quietly and without any recognition and I praise the Lord God for her efforts and humility. God Bless you and your family.

I am very please with what God has done so far and I am pleased that God has provided for our needs. I praise God for his wonderful mercy and love for us. Please remember us in your prayers.

God Bless

Update...

The biddies I hatched out the last of Feb are now out of the brooder and in the chicken house in their own subdivision and growing up fast. They are eating machines! I have 31 of those.

Still plugging away at giving away our eggs. I am getting 12-13 a day now and we eat maybe a dozen a week and the rest go out the door.

I am going to contact a local church who has a good ministry going on in our little town. It's called J.A.M. I think it stands for 'Jesus and Meals' or something like that. I need to get more info, but they ask different churches around town to take turns donating PB&J sandwiches and snacks assembled into brown bag lunches that they take to families with children who need some help. I am considering giving my eggs to them for distribution as it seems all my current donations are to people who attend my home church. I REALLY want to get beyond my church family and give to anyone, regardless of if or where they go to church.

So I came up with a small note to put in with the eggs...

Hi there!
I thought you might like some fresh eggs. Just a little reminder that I’m thinking about you and
I love you. You can call me any time (I am always just a whisper away).
Maybe you could bring the family over to my house on Sunday. That would be wonderful! Hope to see you there!
Love,
God
p.s. tell the kids I love ‘em

Matt 25:35-40

At the bottom of the note I will put a web address and a phone number that they can contact if they want.

Have a very blessed Easter holiday everybody. He Lives!!!!!

Wow talk about a nieghbor helping a nieghbor, It nice to see that you are giving eggs away to people w/o looking at thier income, the messages are so nice, I would love to copy your tags to put on my extra egg cases when I have some because I'm sure even family who don't do "church" could be saved.hank you for your work and thoughtfulness, I wish I had enough room for a huge flock to do the same thing as you are doing:)

Nice Fivestring... Its very cool that you are being so creative with your giving. SUPER GOOD JOB... Praise the Lord!!

I try to go door to door with my eggs and I have tried to target the homes that are close enough to my church that they might consider coming to Church. If I see a need then where they live really doesn't matter.

I'm getting about a doz eggs a day myself. I hope to see my new flock(23 new production red pullets) laying by May

We are so bless to be able to show Gods love in a way that we also enjoy so much.

Quick Update:

Egg production is up at the moment. The 20 new pullets have started to lay. I got 7 eggs from that flock yesterday(out of 21 pullets). With the new layers I have been getting nearly 2 doz eggs a day. With more eggs being purchased from my local farmer I feel Sparrow Ministries is being productive this month. I have been meeting some new, very interesting people (which I may share more later). I was pleased to have one of the families that I deliver eggs to on my regular run show up at our church on Sunday. God is truly blessing me and I am privileged to be his servant.

Any one else giving away any eggs?

God Bless

Mike
