OK, the rat sympathizers will be happy to know I just served it a nice one course meal of rat poison, wished it bon appetit, and saw it begin its experience in fine dining. Or something like that.

Should it experience a cafe coronary, burial will be via secure trash can so nothing can eat it and get sick.

I'd use my .22, useful for most smaller varmits caught in our live traps.

Well having a rat spayed or neutered is also really expensive, so not at all an option for a pest someone trapped. I had one of my males neutered years ago... they sent him home with the world's tiniest cone of shame which stayed on for about 5 seconds (since a rat's neck is about the size of its head and body).

We use a snap trap or live trap and release far away into a wash. I avoid poisons as the creatures (hawks, eagles, falcons, and owls) who eat rats and mice then ingest the poison.

FYI: Pet rats are occasionally neutered but they must be younger than 6 mos old and only certain vets are qualified. Definitely not for wild ones!

Yes, I had to reread that a few times for it to sink in that somebody, somewhere thinks this is how to deal with rats. They walk among us.
