The bumping that is primarly spoken of in the rules is the "senseless" type of the type that PC kindly demonstrated by typing "bump" 3 minutes after the prevous post. LOL

If it's an emergency, and hours with no response has gone by, a short message telling the op that someone will be by is fine. Bumping your own thread every 5 minutes for 2 hours is a whole different issue.

That is a cute picture with the baby bump! Since we are talking about the rules, what are the rules on self-promoting a personal business? Not the etsy store in the signature line but the annoying and frquently "bumped" buy my wares (completely unrelated to chicken anything) type posts?

We don't have quantifiable rules on this right now, but the BYC Staff do enforce a general rule of thumb that members shouldn't overly advertise / market their products on BYC, and their product listings should be limited to very specific sections of the site (Buy-Sell-Trade).

We have some great BYC Sponsors that keep this forum alive and kicking and it isn't fair to them to allow other people to get the same exposure without paying.

In general, we allow members an occasional post in the "Buy Sell Trade" section to list items other than chicken related. If we see members going over what the Staff feels is appropriate the member is contacted directly and asked to stop.
