Special feeders for Bantam Chicks?

I’m getting 5 d’uccles in May and working on getting the brooder set up. The one thing that has me wondering the most is if I need to provide different feeders or waterers than one would provide for a standard size chick.

No on the feeders. You could use quail waterers, I suppose, but I've never had any issues with regular waterers, except with one very weak bantam chick who apparently fell asleep and drowned in one.

Thanks! I'm probably going to get some anti-drowning waterers anyway. One less thing to stress about!

Mine have done fine with normal chick waterers and feeders, and I feed crumble with no issues. Belgian d'Uccles are the best!

I use standard chick feeders and waterers with marbles or rocks filling the well some. The quail one I bought just didn't work out for me.

If they are being shipped... I highly recommend having poultry nurti drench added to the first water dish. Also note that when dipping beaks avoid shoving nostrils into the water... a chick aspirating ANY fluid is the same as drowning just slower and sounds like crackling when they breath.

I have a higher survival rate on bantams if I crush the feed crumbles even more into a powder.

I only have Bantam and they do fine with regular water and feeders. Tough little buggers and hop about happily..

I suppose you can add rocks to the watering trap to prevent drowning.
