I ordered 1 male, 4 female SS from Cackle --they sent 1 male and 5 female --supposedly

;) I had already got three females from them in the past, no issues) Join me in speculating? They are 5.5 weeks old.

Picture 1. This is the original ordered male. He came marked with green ink and was an obvious roo from the start, in my eyes. Here he is next to one of his ladies, enjoying his throne upon the food dish.

Picture 2. Our first surprise roo of the bunch. At week 5 I noticed the big red comb!

Picture 3: Surprise Roo #2? What do you think? I'm leaning heavy toward roo. I looked at photos of my other ladies and at 12 weeks they still had the small, beige combs and no wattles.

Pictures 4, 5 & 6. What the heck? Redish wattles? Is this Surprise Roo #3? The comb is still really small but also a bit reddish.

I hear ya... I got 19 chicks from Cackle this spring, 2 ordered as sexed Roos, 10 as sexed pullets, 6 straight run, and one extra...

I ended up with only the two Roos I ordered...

How’s that for rubbing it in ?:p

LOL I ordered 8, got 9 from Cackle in the spring. 5 EES 4 SS pullets. 1 SS died the next day, but 8 made it. All were pullets. I was feeling lucky. lol One of my EEs did die suddenly last week and I have no idea why. Well... I found her bad off, I had to finish the deed.
Our last order was 12 straight run Guineas and the 6 SS. And then my son got 6 California White pullets from TSC. I keep waiting to for them to all end up as males too ;) Just because I'm paranoid now.
We also have a 7th Cali White that is failure to thrive and somehow still alive even though she hasn't grown. And I made a rookie mistake of picking her up a friend from TSC that I thought was going to be a Maran Pullet... turned out she gave me one from the EE bin and they might have been straight run. It's an awfully big EE chick. So my luck that is a Roo too. *sigh*
