Speckled Sussex not speckled

Pics
I guess hatchery leghorn x hatchery SS has other genes in there . . .
Well, it shouldn’t. I suppose hatchery sussex could have the recesssive gene for yellow legs, but it’s strange that all the examples of sienna stars have them.

Back to your hen, I looked at the privett website, and the only thing I can think of is that she’s a naked neck that didn’t get the naked neck gene. However, I’m thinking that isn’t likely.

Probably not. I’ll just have to wait and see what happens when she molts.

Jumping on this thread. My SS has speckles on her chest, but not her back. It’s like she feathered out on the bottom but not on the top. My chicks two weeks younger than her have tail feathers and wing feathers (see first pic). She is on the left, and the younger chicks are on the right top & bottom. You can see her chest feathers in the second pic. Will she get wing speckled or will she just be chest speckled with no tail? She’s about 6-7 weeks old now.

I remember someone saying that sometimes after they molt the pattern fills in better, this was regarding laced birds, but I imagine it applies all around :idunno

She’ll get the full speckling as she gets older.
