Speckled Sussex-now you got me questioning myself!-UPDATE pg 2

Yes, I guess I do think roo. My girls almost always have basically no comb at all until they get much closer to laying. Time will tell tho.

So.....Im pretty sure we got a pullet like we ordered! She has grown into her comb and now it does not look so large. No waddle development and she acts like a hen. Ill confirm it in a few more weeks hopefully!

I would say it is a roo also, I have had some of my Sussex roos go up to around 5 mos with very little comb development. The hens usually develop tail feathers faster and the one in the pic only has a little tail.

I also would say roo. Based on comparison of my two SS yours has the body shape and tail(or rather, lack thereof) of a roo. My roo is Very friendly. I plan on keeping him and hopefully hatching SS chicks!

I vote pullet. This is a picture of my speckled sussex roo at 10 weeks. I had 2 roos and 2 pullets. At 12 weeks the 1 roo was crowing and being mean to the girls so he had to be rehomed.

Based on my own experience with raising this breed, I'd say you have a pullet there. I go by the shape of the feathers on the back just above the tail...rounded and fat=pullet; thin and pointed=roo.

I have 2 SS pullets and one roo at 23 weeks. Yours looks like my pullets.
