I'm very curious about the tail too as I have a baby that's very feminine except that tailfeather that curls.
View attachment 1848449 I've posted this pic elsewhere - I have a confirmed hen (witnessed her laying an egg multiply times, had her for 11 months now) with curled tail feathers. It can happen some times![]()
Thanks! She’s the sweetest thing!I also think pullet. SS cockerels usually have more white on their breast at this age, and a bigger comb.
Love the SS hens!

Yay! Thanks!I'm thinking she's 100% pullet![]()
Yeah that pic is 100% female and clearly so. People get way too hung up on "curly" tails feathers. It's not a good way to sex juvenile birds at all.View attachment 1848449 I've posted this pic elsewhere - I have a confirmed hen (witnessed her laying an egg multiply times, had her for 11 months now) with curled tail feathers. Thank you so much! That is very helpful.View attachment 1848608 You have a little female for sure! The male SS I have raised were very obvious by 4 or 5 weeks old. This group is a little older than that but it will give you and idea of what a male will look like.![]()
Good to know! Thanks!pullet. You have to remember, your chick is young. All of those feathers are going to fall out in the next 4 weeks and be replaced by adult coloration. Curling doesn't mean much.
