Speckled Sussex?

Pics

The peachy-colored egg at 6 O' clock is a SS egg. They tend to be rounded-oval in shape, tinted and medium in size. My SS's laid pretty regularly.
Pretty egg basket for sure. My coronation sussex lay a creamy cololored egg, just a little lighter than your SS egg and they often have a peachy cast to them.

i have 1 ss hen, 1 SS roo, and 2 4 week old SS... The babies are defintley the most friendly out of all my new chicks (leghorns, BR,EE,wellies,Brahma.) The only breed that comes close to friendliness is my cochins =]

I have not had a broody SS yet. I've got SS from two different hatcheries that are over two years old and have never gone broody. I have SS (that are about 13 months old) from two different breeders and have not gone broody yet. I've got SS from a BYC person (these are about 7 months old ) and have not gone broody either. For comparison sake, I have an ameracauna that is 11 months old and she has gone broody TWICE already. She hatched and raised the first set of chicks, went back to the flock, and is setting on the second set of eggs right now. They are due to hatch this week.

Oh I have broodies out the wazoo. Last time 6 went broody at the same time and of course piled on top of each other.... Our broodiness happens in about 1 year 6 months to about 2 years..... But wow they do....broody! making that funny noise broodies too. when I checked eggs. A friends child was with me while gathering eggs. He told his mamma, those are monster birds....Yup they lost all appearance of friendly happy birds and I am presently looking for "falconier" gloves cause they are the most protective of mothers..from the friendliest babies and adults they do become "monster birds" when broody..

Since my last post, I NOW have my FIRST broody SS. She is from the group that is 17 months old. Man she is sitting tough on the eggs too. I physically remove her from the nest every couple of days so that she will go eat, drink, stretch the legs, and poop. I have tried to give her food right beside the nest, but she refuses to eat it. The only way I can get her to eat is to totally remove her from the nest. . . . THEN I have to go back in 30 minutes and check on her. She typically returns to an empty nest and sits on AIR. I have to raise the "monster bird" off the empty nest and put her on the nest with eggs. She will then settled down and not move off them again!

I do hope she is a good mommy!

Wahoo..... Perfecto, Right at the right mark in time.... Ours are good mothers but wow they are protective.... Congrats Math Ace

Thought I would put a picture up of my girl. I just got an egg today, will post that too..not sure if it was from my SS, or my NH. They are both looking pretty ready! My NH has been checking out the nest boxes more.

Getting pretty red in that comb. She is small, I got her from McMurry's in Feb.

She, is very talkitive, and loves following me around.

Here is the pullet egg I found today..well, I mean the new hen egg I found today..June of 2012 Yaay!

What a pretty girl, and congratulation on her first egg! It's always exciting and never seems to get old

Kansas, it is so true, you wait and wait for them to be old enough, but then, the waiting once they are old enough, seems to be the longest wait of all. She has been in and out of nest boxes this morning making all sorts of noise. I hope she can settle down and be less nervous about it all after she's laid a few. Bless her heart. She doesn't like anyone else in a nest box so far, while she wants to lay.
I take it you have SS. Do they lay pretty well? I have heard different stories on them. Just wondering how well yours lay. Thanks!

Hi, do you happen to know what bloodline your SS are and from who did they come from, The male looks very nice except for the white tail feather.

Cynthia,
I had adults in the past and loved them. They laid pretty well, probably 4-6 eggs a week. I'm raising 2 right now, most likely a cockerel and pullet. Not sure how well these will lay, but hopefully I can tell you around October
