Okay...I took splash baby and cannonball out of the bator and into the brooder, while doing so, I checked smoky's pipped egg. The pip is just a mere crack in the outer shell, not a complete pip...when i touched the egg...it peeped at me bigtime. Now it is peeping up a storm. I think I woke it up.
So something is peeping away in the bator now. I am going to watch be back in a few with a report.
Make cheeping noises at it! Tap on the window! I've been known to twist a coathanger and snake it through the vent hole to tap on the side of the egg to wake it up, too.
very cute and nice pics, now for the uneducated what are you seeing Cyn that tells you right off it is a splash? and is this just a splash orp or is it still a BBS?
my DH is going too start his thread from our eggs tonight we candled all the eggs and want to give you the update.
The splashes are hatched looking silvery-white, maybe with the faintest hint of bluish color in the fuzz on the back. The blues look almost black when they hatch sometimes. BBS just refers to the fact that you don't know which color the chick will be when you breed two blues together. All my breeders are blue, but the babies can be any of the three colors; can't really predict what color of BBS will pop out of the egg.
Yes, if you want all three colors. If you want all blue chicks, you can breed a black to splash and get all blues.
Black x Splash= all blue
Splash x Splash= all Splash
Black x Blue = some blue, some black
Blue x Splash = some blue, some splash
Blue x Blue= blue, black and/or splash
Within the blues are some that are very dark, most are medium, some are very light.
