I think being in the dark keeps her calm and stops her cycle, which is good in this case. I bet she'll start laying again when the stress of her illness has passed. Enjoyed talking to you this afternoon!

Thank you I enjoyed talking with you as well. Your poor husband must not know what to think...we were laughing like loons and then ranting. LOL Did he tell you after our call how I greeted him? I was very chipper and said "Good Afternoon Tom this is LadyHawk. Is your lovely wife available?"

Domino is doing much better this morning. She laid an egg and got a bit testy when Cheyenne reached in to take it. The early morning conversation from her room sounded like this.

Cheyenne yelling from her room "Mom she laid"

Me yelling back "Good, bring it in here"

Sounds from Cheyenne's room "Ouch Ouch Stop that and let me have ouch it ouch Domino"

Cheyenne yelling " Mom she is not happy but I got it"

The shell was thin compared to usual, so I am wondering if that will correct itself once she begans eating like normal or if I need to jack up her calcium intake. She enhaled her scrambled egg this morning.

I am just making sure she is eating her layer crumbles for now and not harrassing her too much.

She must feel really good to lay an egg. I'm so happy for you. It's so upsetting when one of your chickens gets sick. Most of us are left on our own or from the good people on this board for support and info. It's too bad that society doesn't see chickens as having enough value to have people or vets that can provide care to them.
I think we all appreciate the people that have knowledge about chickens. It's kinda like the old days when there was some kind of medicine person in a town.
Sharing these stories gives us all a wealth of knowledge.

That is wonderful news!! I think she may be over the hump now. The thin shell is probably just a passing thing. She's not been getting all the usual calcium, I would think, or her body wasn't processing whatever she did get. Sometimes, when a hen is dehydrated, she'll have thin shells, too.

My DH just said, hey, Cyn, it's Ladyhawke, LOL.

Oh man Cyn she is a problem now...she heard Deville crowing and perked up! She shredded the corner of her blankie and was pitching a fit calling back to him. we put her in the tractor outside and she is calming down but still looking for him. She is scratching, picking at flowers and chasing bugs.

So, Cheyenne is going to try to put her in the coop tonight...should we keep her in another day or go ahead and put her back? What do you think?

We kept her inside last night because she wore out pretty quickly in the tractor. I want her to get a little stronger so the meaner girls do not pick on her back in the coop. My RIRs and a one of my SFs tend to be bossy and pecky.

she is going out in her tractor around lunch time today and I will monitor her but she is eating and drinking fine now but not as much as i would like.

Sheesh I tell you ... sometimes these chickens can be a PITA. LOL Now she is sneezing and has a slight runny nose (clear). I am wondering if being in the house with the temperature being warmer has caused this or if it is a side affect or just a cold or what.

She is in her tractor and acts likes a happy chicken as long as I am sitting there beside the tractor but as soon as I walk away or leave her sight she paces this side of the tractor trying to get out.

Oh man I dunno. I do not want a house chicken LOL they have their own nice house. So, I guess I will put some terramyacin in her water to try to clean up the sneezing runny nose thing. My goodness this girl is a mess. LOL

Here she is in her tractor yesterday

So, I guess I start the antibiotics? Or should I let her be for now? She has been through so much that a cold could do her in right now I think. I just do not know anymore. Help?

I need a chicken sitter for a couple of hours...any volunteers? I will feed you well.

It's probably just the change in location, maybe even pollens in the air. I dont usually worry about a few sneezes. And the watery nose can be the same thing. Zane dunks his whole beak and water always runs out his nose, LOL. I'd let her have a day or two to get some strength back then put her in the coop if she was mine.

That was what I was thinking but man she acting like a spoiled brat. If I am not outside where she can see me, she paces the tractor looking for a way out or just stands and will not move. I walk outside she starts pecking and scratching, eating and so forth...as long as I am out there.

What the blue blazes is her problem? Spoiled?

DH said "Well she might be a house chicken...whatever is fine with me" I am thinking "OH I ain't having no house chicken"
