Speeding ticket...need advice

Check your letter of the law. Most school zones speed limits are "when in the presence of children". Hence, no kids around no foul.

Just thought I would point out that the judge can charge you more than the ticket if he thinks he needs to to slow you down.
Ya know you earned that ticket, pay it. But you can fight it an then still pay a ticket + court costs + anything else the judge wants to add on.

If you pay that ticket (without disputing it..) you are agreeing that you were going the 37 miles an hour....which you were NOT going. There would be no way i'd admit to that if i didnt do it. espically when talking school zones here...you may get a higher fine/surcharge...
Admit what you DID do (30 mph)..nothing more. ANd i agree, go in there and be respectful..they are just doing their jobs...but that dosent mean you have to just accept the added miles over the limit put on you... If i knew i wasnt going that fast, i'd have no problem with taking it to court.

My first thought is pay the ticket, you got caught.

My second is when viewing the situation from a larger perspective if you have children, I'm not sure "Mommy/Daddy got caught breaking the rules but she/he got out of it on a technicality" is a very good meassage to be sending. If you have no children, then ignore my comment.

Take it as a lesson learned. Don't speed through school zones. I guess the ticket would be less if you were cited for 5 miles over, rather than 11. I would rather be cited for the correct speed also.

But, you were speeding in a school zone. Pay your fine, either the original or the adjusted one. Get into the habit of slowing down around schools or anywhere kids might be.

Here it's for certain hours like 7:30 am to 9:00 am or when the lights are flashing. And then again when school lets out in the afternoon. Doesn't matter if there's kids present or not.

You are so right on with this statement. I do not know what the OP expected when they addmited to over 45000 they always knowingly break the law and endanger children by speeding

I looked this up for you to see if it might help you tell if there is a difference in what you will charged, but it gives the points against your license.

Also when I put: School Zones in Walkerton Indiana your thread came up first in the search bar.

From the Indiana state laws and DMV:
The state assigns points for driving infractions in two-point increments up to eight. The more serious the offense, the more points that are given. Points stay on your license for two years from the date of conviction. Below are some common violations, and their corresponding points:
Top Two-point Violations

* One to 15 mph over the speed limit

* Failure to use headlights

* Brake lights or signal lights not working

Top Four-point Violations

* 16 to 25 mph over the speed limit

* Illegal U-turn

* Unsafe lane movement

Top Six-point Violations

* 26 mph or more over the speed limit

* Failure to stop or yield

* Following too closely

Top Eight-point Violations

* Driving with a suspended license

* Failure to yield to an emergency vehicle

* Speed contest on road

I agree. To admit you consistantly speed in school zones, whether it's 5 miles over or 50, you should have realized people might be upset. The two places I never speed are school and work zones. Neither our kids or the workers should have to worry about people speeding thru their zones.

I'd suck it up and pay the fine......after all you were speeding.
