Speeding ticket...need advice

Even if the officer didn't show here in AZ, you'd probably end up paying more.

They are extremely picky about school zones here.... and we have to go 15, not 25 and the fines are closer to $200.

Most officers here are trained to give the speed of a vehicle with and without radar and they are all certified within 1-2 MPH.

If you were going 30, go to school to keep if off your record, pay the fine and put the cruise control on 25 in school zones.

Advice? Yes, the best I've ever gotten in my life... Pick your battles
and stop speeding please, instead enjoy the slower speed limit and notice the things that you usually whiz right past. Take advantage of the opportunity to slow down, practice breathing and being calm.

Life is much too fast already, slow down & enjoy the scenery.

Wow, I posted for advice...not ridicule.

I admitted to going 30 and have no problem paying for a 30 ticket. My problem as I stated before, was the 36 he ticketed me for. I have my big girl panties on and am willing to accept the 30.

There were NO children out loading onto buses or running to get to moms car....school was in session. But thanks for the wonderful dramatic visuals of me running some child over. (This was a high school not an elementary)

Thank you to those that didn't just find the pleasure in biting my head off, and actually read my post, and gave me some ideas.

The only problem with agreeing to this ticket is..
if she wasnt going that speed (37) then why be surcharged for it? In some states if you go so many miles over the limit, there are more surcharges and fines attached to your ins..(espically in school zones!)
I would not agree to going faster than i wasnt..NO way...
but i would admit to what speed i was doing..i think thats fair..

I don't believe anyone ridiculed you.

The officer may have written the ticket to make a point. You may have been going faster than you thought. I doubt a judge is going to have much sympathy for someone speeding in a school zone. Your best bet is take the ticket, and write the experience off as a lesson learned.

I don't see you being ridiculed at all, you asked for advice on a speeding ticket and admitted to speeding in a SCHOOL ZONE. Did you want us to be happy you are endangering our children and as you put it consistently? If you don't want advice and can't handle what you get, then don't ask on a public forum. Go to court, tell them you were speeding in a school zone but not as fast as the office said because you always do 30 not 25 and take the punishment the judge gives you like an adult and then change your ways. Then my advice to you is if you are caught again don't admit it on a public forum that cares for our children and laws.

It rarely goes well to walk into a courtroom and tell the Judge the Officer is lying or exaggerating. The Judges know the Officers a lot better than they know you, and you will simply set yourself in a bad light in the eyes of the Judge. Call an attorney in your area and ask what they suggest. Other than that, i am out of this thread, seeing as I have a soft spot for LEOs.

Is the fine amount different according to the speed? I know around here under 10 over it's like $50, if it's 10+ over it's like $300. If that's the case, then fight to have it corrected. Otherwise, you were knowingly speeding (in a school zone nonetheless). Take responsibility for your actions, suck it up and pay the fine, take the class, etc.
