If the original poster were to compare all of the times s/he has admittedly sped through the area at 5 miles above the posted limit to the penalty of the one time s/he got caught at 11 or 12 miles above the limit, s/he is actually still ahead of the game.

It really does sound like you're just ticked off that you got caught.

Having a radar detector doesn't give you free rein to travel at the speed that you prefer, until the device sounds an alert. So it didn't go off? That makes the officer wrong, and you right? Using a radar detector permits a driver to attempt to avoid the law. Using a radar gun, etc. permits an officer to enforce the law.

I believe in the original post there was mention that it was a "free for all" that day. Perhaps persons on that road, in that school zone, had complained about persistant violators of the speed limit.

Many of the previous posts gave valid advice on testifying in court in an attempt to plead not guilty, and succeed.

You admit that you were speeding. Suck it up.

Coming from an LEO we do not have to show you our radar unit. In fact it would not be safe too. For myself or for you. If you get hurt walking to my car thats is my fault because you are in my hands and if I get hurt (you come at me, etc) WOOOO WEEE im in big trouble now. We have to calibrate our units each time they/our car is issued to us or when we turn them on at the beginning of our shift. We have to record this in our log book for court purposes. As for the rest of this topic... im with gritsar i cant get into that...

Oh and a note on radar detectors... any smart cop doesnt ride around with his/hers turned on. We are taught to do visual detections and then confirm with our radar. When we catch site of a speeder we then turn on our radar to catch thrm. If we were to ride with them on everyones radar detector (that works with our units) would go off, that would lead to a nonproductive day.

There have also been many of times I have given people a break on their tickets and not made them out to be as fast as they were going... for instance 20mph over is big trouble... i might make the ticket out for 18 over depending on the circumstance, so the penalty isnt as bad.

Go to court plead 'no contest' get a reduced fine and no points...

STOP SPEEDING in SCHOOL ZONES (or at all)

Here its double fine, you would be looking at a $300 ticket with no reduction chance... (the judge can waive the points still)

you are lucky...
