Spell check anyone?!!!

Fire gear off again...

Hi Terrielacy! I am not suggesting anyone directly post to a person that doesn't spell correctly. This is a general opinion poll/subject for my personal interest and others here.

Doesn't ANYONE think a spell check feature would be a good thing? Almost every other typewritten application uses a spell check feature-and I am not insinuating that it is always an educational issue.

Hhhmmm...very interesting, why would so many here think that incorrect usage and spelling is an ok and acceptable thing?
Is it perhaps a lax attitude that has stemmed from todays educational system, or a justification of a lack of general English knowledge?

Flame gear on...

Okey dokey.....no finger pointing, no accusations. Think all I was saying is that, as I pointed out, due to my work experience (much like Sherry's misspelling as a youngster), spelling is an issue for me.

It was not my intention to hurt anyone's feelings in any way. I manage to work through misspellings here because I value the advice I find here, education or no. Who am I to judge anyone by their ability to spell?

I'm out of this one now...........not interested in further feeding the fire here.

Edited to correct spelling error (see....it's a thing for me).

Because fire has been drawn on me for not posting in the correct area, but it appears as if other threads similar in nature (ie: not relating directly to chickens) are posted in the "general" area.

I TOLD you it wouldn't be popular haha

!

But as everyone else here-this is a forum, and forums are for questions of different subject matter-right? And since my subject does realate to chickens in a round a bout way...

I actually would appreciate spell check. I consider myself to have a pretty good grasp of the English language (and it's slang and lax underbelly), but I know I am a terrible typist -often my misspellings create a completely different word that can completely change the meaning or tone of what I was trying to say. I guess it's a "Freudian slip" of the fingers!

I don't think we should call people on it, but I admit sometimes I have a hard time figuring out what some people are talking about. Plus, I'd feel rather uncomfortable pointing it out to someone. ...Though sometimes the spelling errors create really embarassing double entendres!

Spelling/grammar is a pet peeve of mine, but I think trying to enforce it online is an uphill battle.

Do we need to review the rules for this forum??? Here...let me help! I personally don't come to this site to see this kind of thing and frankly I don't understand why a moderator is shutting this down!!!!:thun

This is a list of things you should not do on our board .... If you do your posts will be locked or removed if you continue to post things that do not follow our guidelines you might find your access to Backyard Chickens closed.

* Remember this is a family board no foul language and no inappropriate "Adult" topics.
* No PETA posts ...these always seem to end with locked threads.
* No Cock fighting posts.
• Flame. Flaming is verbally attacking people or groups of people - e.g. a profession, an organization, a company. Name-calling and defamatory comments are typical examples of flaming.
• Rant. Ranting is posting irate and normally unconstructive comments. It's normally used to let out frustration, but also as a form of trolling.
• Troll. Trolling is posting to provoke others, luring them to flame or rant. Trolling is sometimes done involuntary, so please be considerate when posting.• Spam. Spamming is posting the same thing several times, or posting without any real content. "Bumping" (posting to move a thread up on the forum list) and cross-posting (posting the same thread in several forums) are examples of spam.
• Fight. Taking a personal conflict to the bulletin board is not needed. Allow those not involved to avoid having to see it.
• Advertising other forums or discussion of things that go on there will not be allowed here.....

I agree, enforcing it would be a waste of time. Quote:

I think it would be hugely helpful to those of us who do care and want spell help.

Don't have time now, but will most likely put this in the correct area as a request for the mods (even though they have now read it as a request in the "general" area-want to go through the proper channels you know)

You know, all you can do is worry about what your own fingers type. You can't change every single thing that bothers you. Trying just gives you a headache.
I think this thread is done. Thanks for your participation.
