Yesterday I read a post related to keeping the brooder cage clean. I am also new to raising chickens.
I also have 6 Australorps, 3 wks old now. The water bottles I got from the feed store are useless. They leak out all the water. I am using 5 inch dog water bowls for them. I have to change it 2 to 3 times a day. But ,I don't have a big wet mess in the cage.
I just flush the dirty water in the toilet, then clean and refill the bowl.
I also have 7 2 wk old Easter eggers. I'm officially chicken crazy now.

Good luck

Just curious . . . those water bottles, are they the kind that guinea pigs use with the little ball at the end of a metal tube ?

If the ball doesn't fit well - they will leak.

I've been using a cheapo waterer from TSC - it's been good.

Here is a link to some pic's
