I make my husband drive, so Spirit can sit in my lap.

I bet ya'll get alot of attention from passing cars. lol once we had goats years ago, and when our nanny had a baby we didn't think she was nursing so we put them both in the back seat of a Volks Wagon fastback and took them to the vets about 25 miles from our home, they rode like dogs sitting in the back seat looking out the window, yep alot of stares as we were going down the interstate. that day. lol

I wonder how geese' feet stay warm! Do your geese vocalize how much they dont want to be cooped up on snowy days? My mom & I had to run errands one afternoon and had to put the geese us early since there was a chance that we'd return after sundown. They went inside willingly, looking forward to the prospect of food, but once they realized that they weren't going back outside, they threw a goose tantrum. I felt so bad hearing them cry as I walked away from their house. I kept telling myself, at least they'll be safe if we come back at night.
you should hear ours when I dont let them out

, but if we're not going to be home or it's too bad for humans to be out I keep them in their night pens. BTW night pens are 10x12 with a house for each pair.
Marty, congrats on the new goats!!!! Also great news about Baby and Lucky making more progress recovering!

Bhonkers, my geese lay down a lot to warm their feet. They also prefer hay bedding to sleep on instead of the frozen ground. I know it's really cold when my ducks put themselves up into coop in the afternoon. Ember likes to throw goose tantrums about being inside, but Spirit prefers to simply give me the stink eye. But they will get to go outside today for a few hours, even if cold and snowy, since I really need to gut clean their room and give them a break. Plus, tomorrow will be a stressful day for Spirit, so he may as well have some fun with his buddies today.

Vet appt goes well

Hello everyone, Well we sure got snow last night. We ended up with 8 inches and have spent the morning shoveling everything off and out. I cleared a nice pathway for everyone and banked the barn with all the snow that I cleared. My DH would normally do this for me but dad was blowing out the driveway's so it was my job with the shovel. The geese flew out of the barn this morning, the ducks wadled out but shortly came back in. The chickens came out and went back in to their coop so I closed the door on them to keep more of the heat in. Our dogs love being out in the snow, they actually play in it. Dad's little shitz is a little shitz we have to pick here up just to get her to go outside. UGH!!

Was gonna go visit hubby but I am gonna wait till tommarrow to let the roads clear up better. Plus let all the idiots have all the accidents they want before I get out. They alway's forget how to drive in the snow and ice. They still want to see how fast they can go to the next stop light and can't understand why they slid into the car infront of them.:he

Hey guys! Yes, today is Spirit's big day at the vet. I will be sure to give full report when we return. Thanks for the warm wishes!!!

We have returned from a very successful visit with the vet. Everything looks great on xray and we have begun removing hardware. For this trip, the vertical pin, as well as two of the horizontal pins were removed from the upper leg. My vet said that often patients will appear to have a set back for a few days as they adjust to the loss of support. However, he felt Spirit would show immediate improvement as the vertical pin had migrated upwards to the point that it was causing him discomfort when walking. I told my vet that I had let Spirit go in kiddy pool a few times and he said that was fine. The concern would be infection entering through pins, but he has healed extremely well. So long as I make sure pool is clean/fresh filled, he said ok to let him go into pool.

As soon as we got home, Spirit was immediately put outside with his buddies (thank goodness the weather is better today) and looks to be feeling good. Our next visit is in 2 weeks (Dec. 26th) where we expect to remove the rest of the hardware on his upper leg. Then, the final trip we will remove the rods/pins on the lower leg.
