Spirit - the amazing grey dewlap toulouse gander!

We have returned from a very successful visit with the vet. Everything looks great on xray and we have begun removing hardware. For this trip, the vertical pin, as well as two of the horizontal pins were removed from the upper leg. My vet said that often patients will appear to have a set back for a few days as they adjust to the loss of support. However, he felt Spirit would show immediate improvement as the vertical pin had migrated upwards to the point that it was causing him discomfort when walking. I told my vet that I had let Spirit go in kiddy pool a few times and he said that was fine. The concern would be infection entering through pins, but he has healed extremely well. So long as I make sure pool is clean/fresh filled, he said ok to let him go into pool.

As soon as we got home, Spirit was immediately put outside with his buddies (thank goodness the weather is better today) and looks to be feeling good. Our next visit is in 2 weeks (Dec. 26th) where we expect to remove the rest of the hardware on his upper leg. Then, the final trip we will remove the rods/pins on the lower leg.

What a great report J, I know you are happy and I'm sure Spirit likes having more of that contraption on his leg removed. Won't be any holding him back soon.

Baby is trying to stand today. One of her feet is a bit curled up now, but I don't know why. Vet checked carefully before, but here legs were ok. I guess its from sitting. Lucky was showing a bit of improvement too. Slow and stead for those two, with an emphasis on slow. However, if Spirit can do it, so can the two girls in the barn.

Sorry I havn't been on too much, the goats are rather time consuming. I'm milking 3x a day, to increase milk supply, but its still slow. Is anything going to improve quickly here??? Gee whiz.

for those girls to turn the corner towards recovery once and for all! Any news with prosecutor??? And CONGRATS, you lucky gal, for getting goats and having to milk them. Are you thinking you should have gotten horses instead?

What happened to Marty's geese? I must have missed those notes.
Iian I am so glad that things are looking up for Spirit. My Toulouse pair are still fighting with everyone. I have turned off all lights now except for the daylight time when the sun decides to come out. Not usre what else to do to keep then from laying yet. Thank goodness no eggs yet either,

The stories are in the Buff Dewlap Toulouse Thread . Story of finding Baby the Buff Dewlap-post 125 page 13. Story of what happened to Lucky the duck-post 191 page 19.

Easier to read then retale.

Triplell, you don't know?!?! Two malamute type dogs broke into her fenced pens and wiped out the vast majority of her birds. Marty and family came home in middle of attack to beat back dogs and save the remaining ones. Baby (buff dewlap) and Lucky (jumbo pekin) barely survived the attack and it is has been a very tough road to recovery for both.

Sorry your toulouse are fighting. Is it bad fighting or minor scuffles?
