Spirit - the amazing grey dewlap toulouse gander!

She lost her beloved LGD and 99% of her birds, including her prized dewlaps, in a barn fire.

I finally found that out. Man, that has got to be just heartbreaking. They had invested so much time, effort, money and love on those animals. Her geese were just stunning, and she had to go to so much trouble to get them because of her location in far eastern Canada. I am just so sad.....

It is a shocking and tragic accident, the kind that literally leaves you gasping for air.

Oh wow. Sorry to hear about all the fires. That would be awful. I, too, am paranoid about fire. I bought a Brinsea EcoGlow brooder to use instead of a heat lamp in the house. I'll have to check out the link you posted, Janet.

I'm glad the dogs are both doing better on meds, though. Each good day with them is a precious thing.

Unfortunately, since you mentioned it...... things are not going so well for my boxer. She had another cluster seizure episode starting yesterday afternoon and lasting throughout the night. We were getting ready to take her to our vet to put her down this morning, when she rallied back once again. We are at a loss as to what to do today. This is the 3rd all-nighter brink of death scenario in the last 30 days. Hubby and I are both physically and emotionally exhausted.

Thank you, Ruru. I believe all of us on this thread have been here before. It is the price for having our pets.

Oh, I'm so sorry. We have all been there and will probably be there again, because it is the price we pay for loving these creatures with their too short life spans. Knowing it's coming doesn't make it any easier, though. Stay strong. ((Hugs))

LighteningTFarm, Your Dad is definitly in my paryers as well as the very large prayer chain that we have.

Aoxa I just heard about it and I'm in tears right now.:hit After taking care of my mother when she lived with us and doing a full time job was not easy and very exausting. Then when I could now longer work and we moved into their house to take care of her it seemed even harder than before.

As soon as it gets warmer Dad is gonna rewire the barn to get rid of all the extesion cords. Electicity is only on 1 side of the barn. I have lost two sections of my coop so all day yesterday and today I spent making make shift coops inside the barn. We will be getting some plastic to enclose the burnt sections as it smells something feirce. Plus the drafts are coming from the door that I had to open for the FD to get to the outside wall. It is enclosed in chainlink and the gates are frozen solid.

Iain, I am so sorry about your baby,:( I have had to put down so many dogs living on the farm that we have a pet cemetary, they just don't live long next to a busy highway when they get out. I am still morning my cat that I just had to put down at age 6.
