Spirit - the amazing grey dewlap toulouse gander!

Thanks. It is officially scheduled for 9am Wednesday. I am told it will not be a fun procedure and he won't begin to feel better until 3-4 days post surgery, but it is his only hope at this point.

Because of his deformity, he has to place the bulk of his weight on bottom center of foot. However, we are not sure how it went from being on the mend last month to how he is today.

Janet I believe that Spirit is like me every time I get on the mend something else pops up! So I know how baby Spirit feels believe me! I wish him luck on the operation and send many prayers.....

Utah, is it possible to make a little shoe for him to wear constantly? Maybe cut a piece from a thick inner tube? I also thought about an havaiana soul (my American friends here call them thongs, which is just a piece os sexy underwear in England, I find it funny) it´s the footwear that brazilians are famous for using, you know? That would be nice and light and spongey (foamy), but it may be a bit thick for him. Or what about a pilates-type exercise mat that´s easy to wash in his kennel as it´s going to take the pressure off a bit.

Ruru, I'm sorry you have to go through so many ongoing medical problems. It must be a massive emotional strain.

LB, I don't know if a shoe would help as much as me catching Spirit on a regular basis (when he is outside and feeling good) to examine feet and being more proactive if any sores develop.

Two more days to go until Spirit's big surgery day. I hope Scott can fix him again.

I know Spirit is probably past this treatment J but would you ask Scott about the colorless iodine which some of us have tried on bumbles at a different stage than Spirits and had success with. Not sure how it works but it does. Just curious as to what his view would be pros/cons.

Yes, I see your point, I was just thinking of a way it could be prevented rather than temporarily cured.
I hope his surgery goes well.

Hi J. I haven't been on BYC much for the past few months. I'm sorry to hear Spirit is having trouble again. Best wishes for his surgery on Weds.
