That is not the approriate way to approach a person to bring them to Christ. They may have had good intentions, but not the correct approach.

I don't know if this would be possible, but I would try to contact that mother again and *try* to explain a better way to approach people.

And people wonder why we worry when the "Christian" issue comes up in politics and why people have issues with religion in general.

I admire your restraint.

I would find this seriously scary.

This woman is seriously damaging her own child.

I would feel really bad about walking away, but that is a lesson for another to teach. But extremism is scary no matter what the source.

As the school is aware of it it is really for them to teach some truth.

They are in the best position to counteract this and hopefully take this weight off her daughter. Without pointing out individual error.

I have a son who used to tell me he was afraid for my soul, I told him when he came to me in a robe and sandals I would take him seriously, may sound flippant, but I was tired of having my sunday lunch ruined every week.

thankfully he has opened his mind a little since then, he is still a christian and he still does some really good charity work, but he has learned that others may follow a different path, it does not make them less of a person.

I have WHAT in my yard? :

Yep, she is telling her daughter that she will go to hell if she doesn't save my daughter's soul! I am not Christian but I feel very comfortable saying that this is not a part of anything jesus said!

I am a Christian and YOU ARE RIGHT! That poor little child, can you imagine having that kind of pressure put on you. I can't imagine the stress that little girl feels on a day to day basis.

That mother needs to go back and read her Bible, particularly this verse...

Ephesians 2:8-9 (New International Version)

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works , so that no one can boast.

Her little girl can not work her way to salvation, which is what she is being taught.

Dang! You handled it a heck of a lot better then I would've, I caint imagine tellin anyone I loved they was goin to hell if they didnt save someone else. And a person caint save no one else, they gotta go directly to Jesus for that one. Man, she needs to read her Bible a little bit.

I agree with one of the previous posters, This mother really reminds me of the movie "Carrie" Some people are just nuts and/or just plain stupid. Just explain to your daughter what's going on maybe it won't bother her so deeply when she runs into this kind of stuff. Good job on your restraint- I have a tendency to go "Jerry Springer" sometimes when it comes to my kids. LOL

That's funny, I picked the Pagan references just because that's the most likely to blow the head off someone like this poor kid's mother.

In general Pagan kids seem to grow up pretty able to cope with proselytizing and people declaring Fatwahs on their immortal souls. But occasionally a young kid will get really scared by the folks you so rightly tag as nutters. Below a certain age, it's tough for a kid to cognitively distinguish between someone making a threat of a spiritual nature and a genuine threat to her corporeal safety.

I feel bad for this little girl, who must live in such fear and anxiety.

I'm married to an observant and very spiritual Catholic, and we will be having a great Beltane bonfire this year.

It's All Good.
