"Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch."Matthew (ch. XV, v. 14)
To me this is the quote that I place on such people as the lady and sadly her child.

I think everyone has the right to there on beliefs and should not be pushed off on others..
I do not talk religion to others unless asked and if I don't know the answer I tell them but would never try to bully my religion or beliefs onto someone else.. Hope your child is ok and the bullying stops with this other child..they have no right..they are not god or jesus and we all have our rights to our own beliefs.

Cetawin, that story about your daughter and the school play disgusts me.

The level of ignorance in some cases just astounds me. I am truly sorry she had to deal with that.

Not to stir the pot here, but if all the other kids had to be pilgrims and the excluded/exempted your daughter BECAUSE she's American Indian, that would be a form of racism, and also a big no-no for the school. They have to cover their behinders too, you know, no faculty member is supposed to recognize color/creed/gender differences. There's a lot of gray area.

true but they could have excluded her from the play rather than suspend her. I mean a seoncd grader? Come on. As for racial issues, what about the white children playing the indians? The entire thing could be made a racial issue but as she was the ONLY indian in the school, I think something could have been done differently.

The Chicken Lady...she is a trooper and has dealt with worse since but she accepts "stupid is as stupid does" and just shakes her head now. Last year she had some little boy that liked her who, upon being rejected, starting the "How" and throw his hand up everytime he saw her and she smiled and said "How what?" Oh you mean "hau" and then went off on him in three languages. Smiled and walked away. He stood there looking as stupid as he was and did not understand a word she said to him. hahahahaha

LOL

Your daughter sounds so cool. What a smart kid

LOL she gets her biting wit from me. I keep trying to tell her that fighting with ignorance is a waste of time. Smile and tell them to go to he**" in a manner that will make them look forward to the trip.

That is exaclty what I'm saying. The white children played Indians without complaint, think how it would have looked if they had made the "only Indian in the school" play an Indian. The fact that they expected her to play a Pilgrim is school protocol. Anything else would have looked racist. In todays world it's extremely hard to know what to do about anything. If they don't recognize her cultural difference they are wrong. If the DO recognize the difference and treat her accordingly, they are racist-also wrong. So, where's the right? I'm not saying you don't have the right/ability to dictate what your daughter participates in, I'm just saying that nobody really knows what the heck they are supposed to do and that in a lot of "racial" situations (by this I mean more than one race, be it black, asian, latin, white, etc), there is no right answer b/c someone is bound to be upset at some seemingly racist/unfair/bigotlike occurance.

I just wanted to shed a little light on the uncertainty that surrounds all things race related.

Congrats on handling it better than I'm sure I would have. My first instincts were to rip her head off, use it for a bowling ball and then stuff it up her sactimonious rear exit!

Wow this whole thing really steams me to no end. How dare that mother. Your poor daughter.

This is why I'm not big on religion. Lots of people use it to give reason to hate. Gives them an outlet for it. I'm sure more people have died from religious persecution than anything else.

Gah.

Yay for good, kind Christians, anyway.

You should write her a very long, clear letter. Write the mother one, the daughter one, and anyone else that is an issue. And if that doesn't work? Sue her. I'm so serious.
