Spitzhaubens

Our solo Spitzhauben chick, now 8+ weeks, looks like a cockerel.
Meanwhile, Violetta, the Spright hen that hatched him, went broody again and she’s in the basement in broody jail....

The chick, who I’m calling Junior for now, has a healthy respect for all chickens and humans. He may be a good understudy for our rooster, Beldar. Time will tell...

Pretty bird - but I must admit that I ❤️ Beldar. He's one of my favorite roosters (that isn't mine.)

I FINALLY got some new pictures of my new cockerel and pullet. I ordered these guys this spring and so far am quite happy with how they look in regards to their spangling. Not crazy about the girls poofy crest, but it is forward raking.View attachment 2788767View attachment 2788771View attachment 2788774View attachment 2788776View attachment 2788778View attachment 2788782View attachment 2788783
DS is going to want to "borrow" that male. ❤️
Of course Poof Poof is currently raising chicks so no sleep overs in the near future.

Wow! I really love the uniform speckling on his breast.

We got alot of work to do to improve the hairdo on the Spitzhaubens!
Please keep in mind that the SOP is for a mid sized forward thrust, not some huge polish-like bushel basket on top of the head.

"Improvement" does not always mean bigger.

Facebook has an active spitzhuaben page with lots of helpful files and information.

I've been wondering about the polish like crests. It's like you read my mind!
