Spitzhaubens

Has anyone's pure Spitz laid a brown egg before? I think mine laid her first egg but it's a brown, not white like I read they laid.
No. What other chickens do you have? Sometimes a hen will go sit on someone else's egg and not actually lay one herself after all. Then you might think that warm egg was hers.

The only other ones I have that could lay pullet eggs are a calico princess (cream eggs) and two male turkens. Turkens lay brown eggs, but these guys have saddle feathers and the eggs are definitely not cream.

You could have a Spitz mix or another new layer. I had a white egg layer whose first few eggs of the year had a touch of cream tint/ off-white. After a couple eggs, they looked white like normal.

I got them from Hoover hatchery. She looks exactly like a pure hen, but her and my calico are the only pullets in this coop and I got 2 brown pullet eggs yesterday.
Keep a close eye on who's in the nest for a few days & if an egg was deposited when she got out. It's also possible that the same hen laid an egg late yesterday & again today.

Ex: I have 3 quail and every once in a while, I'll get 4 eggs in one day. (Most of the time the previous day I only got 2 eggs.)

My Calico Princess lays brown eggs sometimes. Is your CP young? My CP is almost 11 months old and she has laid several shades of brown and cream, but mostly in between.

Edited to add that my Calico Princess also came from Hoover's Hatchery. She is my only regular brown/cream egg layer. The only other shade of brown in her coop, is a Marans brown, so definitely not mistakeable

I got two eggs in the same couple hour window and then a third today. My CP is the same age as my Spitz, about 14 weeks. I really don't know what's going on with my eggs anymore

Here's a picture of the egg my Calico Princess laid today. The other egg is from one of my Easter Eggers. I'd definitely consider her eggs more brown than cream. I was confused whenever she started laying too. I didn't think the shades changed, but they do here. I LOVE Spitzhaubens. Hoping to add some to my flock in about 18 days
