Spitzhaubens

Here is the 3/4 Spitzhauben cockerel hatched in June. (1/4 Sebright). My daughter named him Jack. He still lives w the bantam ee flock that raised him. They've trained him well and so far they get along, he knows his place. We'll see what happens, haven't decided what to do with him, he's a very handsome boy. View attachment 4004163
A true "Sprite"! I can see both breeds in him. Wow, what an interesting comb!

Does anyone else’s spitz just love to be a little parrot? I swear whenever I bend over to grab something or extend an arm out, I get absolutely swarmed by my spitz and they try to jump on me! 🤣

Photos of my three girls, and one of my chamois photobombing me when I tried to take a photo of my gold.
First two chamois are Bluebird. The third is of Honey/Pink, and then Pinecone being photobombed by Bluebird haha!

Your Spitz sound great!

Thanks for the photos!

Mine are not that friendly. All I have now are chamois.

Yup! Ours definately seek human interaction. My son loves his Spitzhaubens. They are pretty spoiled, so constantly underfoot and curious to see what we're doing. However, they're also very smart and can easily be trained to come when called by name.

I recommend using their desire to jump on your arm to your advantage. Say "up" before putting your arm out and reward with a treat when she lands on your arm. If you do not invite her by saying "Up, " then simply put your arm down to let her slide off. That way she learns to wait until you're ready for her to fly up. It also makes a fun "trick" to show to your visitors.

Spitzhaubens are becoming more main stream in chickens. They are mentioned on the list at TSC now.
They are very popular in my area...... but sadly all are related. (I hatched them.) I helped start a chicken coop club at the local elementary school. Their Spitzhauben (Dot) is the most popular hen at the school.

Although not APA, my son always shows his at the 4-h fair. His 2 Spitz hens get the most attention even though they will never win Grand Champion. My son's favorite (named Poot) can play fetch, chase a laser, comes to her name, plays follow the leader, and jumps into my son's lap on command.

I'm kinda sad I got mine for an EE project instead of breeding for SOP. I love them! Hope they impart that personally into my crested EE.

I was trying to find this thread! I got snow a week ago and used the opportunity to take some photos with my spitz girls :) ! They sadly have to be contained in a (very large) run due to large amounts of predators in my area, so they weren’t able to run around in the snow for long. Although, they were far from fans of the snow 🤣 I can’t handle one of my chamois girls (we are slowly getting there, she at least comes up to me now!) so she isn’t pictured here. But Pinecone and Bluebird are!

Pinecone hated the snow haha. She wanted to get out of there as fast as she could. As soon as her feet touched the ground, she took off flying because of the snow scaring her 😆
Then next is my favorite image of Bluebird as soon as she first touched the snow.

Safe to say that she took off flying as well. Unlike Pinecone, Bluebird actually really enjoyed the snow and walked around :)
