Splash Copper Marans with Copper Hackle Feathers

I haven’t seen copper hackles with splash Marans before. Does anyone have any themselves and since this color isn’t recognized, is it something breeders are wanting or are we focusing on solid splash with less coppering??

This is a rather good question!

To me.. regarding copper Marans.. the blue nor the splash should eliminate the copper coloring.. and if it's not there then perhaps they're not copper but just blue or splash (black) Marans. I personally think that many novices (myself included) have bought the splash (or blue) Marans from hatcheries.. and bred them to our copper Marans not realizing they are actually different varieties.

@NatJ @Amer can you comment on or clarify anything about how the copper is affected or what should be expected, genetically speaking? TIA!

A splash copper Marans should have the same amount of copper as a black copper Marans. So should a blue copper.
I think many may not know that because there's many copper hens that express little or no copper. Imo if breeding copper you should breed for and from the ones with a good amount of it.
