X2Delaware is a breed. Not a color.
Not a standard variety. There was a guy who went by Keith's Orpingtons who had some.
The Delaware Orpington is yet another colour carried over to Orpingtons by the now retired Bob Follows. Not a standard variety. There was a guy who went by Keith's Orpingtons who had some.

These varieties are not meant to be added to the APA. They are used for a purpose. Like to add new blood to a very limited gene pool. You can take this bird to a White and make pure snow-white Whites. Thus, the new blood strengthens the breed. That's an unfortunate choice of name for the project because it implies a hybrid.
If they're ever accepted into the standard I expect they'd be called by the proper name for the color, Barred Colombian.![]()

One thing that helped my DS learn about different breeds & colors is looking through hatchery catalogs! You can go on McMurray, Cackle, and Hoover’s, just to name a few, and they will send you a free catalog! There are usually great pictures and descriptions. Anything that gets him off electronics and learning something is worth it to me!Thank you so much for your response. Enjoyed the pics of your sweeties! As I said in a earlier post...I have a lot to learn about chicken breeds! I've always just bought chickens and never really cared much about what breed they are. My daughter and I are starting to get into the breed thing and it's a little overwhelming![]()
Breed is defined by the standard. Delaware is a variety within the breed. Which may not be defined in the standard. Far as use, I know for a fact you take this bird to a White Orpington and you will get White Orpingtons. Those White Orpingtons will be within every context of the standard.X2
Delaware is a breed. It is NOT the color they are
The internet can give you these outside the APA Standard varieties like what Bob Follows was working on. Bob's birds met the European Standard well. One thing that helped my DS learn about different breeds & colors is looking through hatchery catalogs!
