splay legs

Hello, i have a chick with splayed legs right now. He hatched out this morning and at first I thought he was just SO big and fat that he couldn't stand up. I've put band-aids on his legs but I'm not quite sure if they're in the right place. Do you wrap the legs between the foot and first leg joint or up higher above near the (hip?) area?

Thanks,
Hope you're here!!!!!

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Glad you found the right info. Hope the little quail is doing better now. I also found that putting a piese of old towel in the brooder is more grippy for them to walk on. Ive found the band aid thing a bit of a hit and miss solution but putting a "carpet" of towel in works wonders as it gives them more grip and helps them to stand. Could also be worthwhile keeping it away from the others until its walking ok otherwise other little ones tend to just walk all over the splay leg one.

hope all is good

Thank you for that website! I just had a georgia giant chick just do that. Now I am heading to the store. We had put them on rosin paper, but I have switched to a bath towel.
