I have a two day old chick that had a prolonged hatch (pipped incubation day 20 and got stuck, I assisted about 48 hours later) and since hatch has had leg issues. She has curled toes and both legs are splayed, and possibly 1 is a pulled tendon. She doesn’t really stand upright, is resting on her hocks with her beak on the ground. When I roll the left leg I think I can feel the tendon pop in and out of place.
Today I tried to tape the feet to fix the toes and put on hobbles. Does she need a chick chair? If so, could I keep her in it in the brooder (there’s only 1 other chick, and he peeps like crazy if I take her out). Is she in pain? She’s constantly peeping loudly unless asleep.
She will drink water if I hold it up to her but I don’t think she’s eaten. Her crop feels empty. I’ve been giving her electrolyte solution and b vitamins dissolved in water. Would it be helpful to make a mash out of the chick crumbles with hot water? Is there any hope for this chick?
Thank you.
