Hello All,

I am very new to chickens and chicks. Two days ago my first broody hen hatched 13 eggs. 11 are healthy and strong but 2 have issues with their legs. I read about splayed legs and have fashioned small “braces” for the two of them, however I am unsure if one may have a paralyzed leg. One leg is normal while the other lays behind him. Has anyone had this issue? His sibling is already doing much better and standing on his own in a matter of about 6 hours. Thank you!

You would do well to post a couple of photos of the baby with the useless leg, one a good closeup of both legs up to the very top of the leg so we can compare the bad leg with the good one.

Nice job on the other chick. You caught it early, and you can almost always expect the leg to get better in just a few days of treatment. The other chick may have a slipped tendon, and hopefully we can make that call after seeing the photos.
